Spain is a country in the western part of Southern Europe, located mainly on the Iberian Peninsula, also including the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea, the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, smaller islands and areas in northern Africa. The country has an area of 505,990 km², being the seventh largest country in Europe (after Sweden and ahead of Norway) and the fifty-third largest in the world (after Thailand and ahead of Turkmenistan)
