DIANA

I was fast asleep when the shrill sound of Eddie's alarm clock interrupted the peaceful quiet of the room. Trying to enjoy the moment, I pretended to be oblivious to the noise, keeping my eyes shut and my breathing even. Eddie, clearly more awake than I was, carefully reached over and shut off the loud blaring of the alarm before it could beep beep any longer.

I couldn't help but hold back a smile beneath my fake slumber. Though I couldn't see his face, I could sense his annoyance, his sighs and whispered curses filling the air. With each of his movements, the mattress beneath me dipped slightly, accompanied by the quiet creak of the bed frame. I could feel his weight on the edge of the bed, near my legs and feet. For a few seconds, he just sat there, and I wished that I could see what he was doing.

Through almost-closed eyelids, I peeked over, watching as Eddie rubbed his sleepy eyes and tousled his unruly hair. The dim light of dawn filtered through the room, casting a soft glow on his tired face. His gaze wandered around, silently blaming the alarm clock for disturbing our peaceful rest. As he turned his head to glance my way, I immediately shut my eyes, making sure to keep my breathing slow and steady, maintaining my sleepy facade.

With a resigned sigh, Eddie stood from the bed, his feet meeting the plush carpet of the room. Believing I was undisturbed, he quietly shuffled around his room, his movements careful and deliberate, so that he didn't accidentally 'wake me.'

Lying there with my eyes closed, I listened intently to the sound of Eddie's footsteps as he moved about the room. The soft rustling of his drawers caught my attention, reminding me that he was getting ready for the day ahead. I could picture him effortlessly slipping into his clothes like a well-rehearsed morning ritual, and I caught myself smiling harder than I cared to admit.

Just before he left the room, I could have sworn I sensed his gaze lingering on me. I could feel his eyes burning into my features. His silent affection reached deep within my heart, making me want to shout out and tell him that I might be falling for him.

Once I heard the click of the bedroom door, I carefully shifted around so that I was laying on my back, staring up at the ceiling. The pain in my side and back shot through my body like a searing fire, reminding me that last night's events weren't just a nightmare. I was thankful to have Eddie by my side through the night. He made me feel safe enough to even allow myself to fall asleep. Letting out a sigh, still snuggled into Eddie's cover, I inhaled deeply, taking in the floral scent of the freshly washed comforter.
