Y/n had not known how hungry she was until she was fed and rested. From what Brook explained, Y/n and Chime were being challenged to a Yu-gi-oh duel. Chime seemed excited to duel for Y/n. Y/n couldn't understand what this had to do with training. Regardless, after eating she had fallen asleep. When she was woken up by bright lights in the night sky. Her whole body was sore from yesterday's activity. She dragged her body from her small bed to the window.
She rubbed her burning eyes, not believing what she was witnessing. It was a real Yu-gi-oh battle, and there were giant monsters. Y/n quickly rushed down the stairs, nearly bumping into Brook who stopped her.
"Woah there! Excited to duel? You still need to build a deck before you can duel! Better hurry, time is running out!"
"Shouldn't you have woken me up?!"
"Come on, you should know that oversleeping is a staple of some of the protagonists from the anime, Y/n! Besides, this is also part of your training! Urgent battle plans!"
Y/n wanted to argue with her, but at the same time she felt something strange. Like she knew more about how to play the game than she should have.
"Report. Brook used an anomalous artifact to stream information about the game into our brain while sleeping."
"Chime! Don't let people stream things into our head! How much-?"
"Enough. Now, we should quickly build our deck."
Y/n sighed. She was outvoted by the voice in her head and the other version of herself. Brook must have been able to tell that Y/n had given in. Brook led Y/n to a wall in the far corner of the room. There, she was faced with what looked to be a glass wall. At the bottom of it around waist height there seemed to be rectangular shaped slots.
"What's this?"
"That, Y/n is what you will be making your deck from. I've already preselected the monsters you'll be using for your training, but you will be allowed to add onto it. It suits you a bit after seeing you dive underground like a shark hunting for prey. Now touch it!"
Brook turned around so Y/n could build her deck in privacy. Y/n slowly reached out to touch the screen as holograms of cards appeared in the glass. Her eyes glanced over it, understanding what she was seeing thanks to Chime. It was an XYZ deck built around the monster card Number 32: Shark drake. A deck full of fish. Chime saw that there was a search option. With her instructions, Y/n began to type in the cards Chime wanted to make this deck work.
Once she was done, the cards all appeared out of the slots at the bottom. Y/n gathered each one up carefully as she held the cards to her chest. She tapped Brook on the shoulder causing them to turn around.
"Finally! Come on, you are missing the match!"
Brook dragged Y/n outside and was surprised to see what was happening. There were two platforms on either side of the field. On the left side of the field was a massive electric board showing the life points of the duelists. Opposite of that on the right side where the bleachers where Brook's motley crew say cheering. On either platform there was a person dueling, on the far end she recognized Able who had summoned Obelisk the Tormentor. Opposite him, was Iris. SCP-105.
On her field she had Number 25: Force Focus which was a giant camera, along with a Cameraclops in defense position.
"Obelisk, obliterate!" Able ordered.
His monster raised its fist, crashing down on Number 25: Force Focus, destroying it and ending the duel! Once the smoke cleared, Iris leaned against the edge of her platform with a defeated look. Her life points had been reduced to zero. Y/n thought back to how defeated her version of Iris seemed. Iris slowly descended her platform as 682 called out the results of the match, wearing a giant black and white referee costume.
"The brown one wins. Iris is sent to the shadow realm."
"Call me 'the brown one' again and you will find my sword in a place you will not reach without help!" Able threatened, descending his own platform.
"Is 682 not playing?" Y/n asked.
"No, he plays Exodia the Forbidden One. He likes to one turn wipe people with similar decks, so he isn't allowed to play. Instead, he takes satisfaction announcing our defeat."
Iris walked over, sighing as she spoke in a defeated tone.
"Well, another loss. Thanks for inviting me, Brook."
"Hey, no problem! But maybe stop playing decks based around camera monsters with no real strategy?"
"But the camera ones look cool!" Iris whined.
Iris finally noticed Y/n, smiling and introducing herself.
"Oh! Hello, I'm Iris-"
"I know. We... we met in my world. You were pretty depressed."
Iris shrugged.
"Not like I wouldn't be. Being sent from one prison to the next puts a damper on anyone's mood. Anyway, good luck with training Y/n."
Iris quickly retreated to the stands while Y/n made her way up to the platform. There was a large console with rectangles all along it. Y/n recognized that each one was placed for putting cards down where the deck went. The console glowed, lines spreading throughout the board as the word "ready" appeared. If David were here, she would wonder if he would think he died and went to heaven seeing this set up.
"On the left, we have the challenger, Y/n L/n." 682 said annoyed. "On the right, this other asshole."
Y/n looked to the other platform. Her opponent was strange to say the least. He was a sharp dressed man in a pitch-black suit that had purple parrel lines running up and down the length of the suit and pants on either side. He wore a black top hat with a bird skull stitched onto it. His skin tone was as black as coal, the only sign of color on his face was the white paint on his gaunt face in the shape of a skull. Y/n could have sworn she saw something white sticking out from the man's nostrils, like cotton.
"Who the hell is this? I was told I was fighting Y/n in the first round!" The man said with an accent Y/n couldn't place. Some amalgamation between French and African.
"You are, just not me!" Brook called out.
The man clicked his tongue. He looked toward Y/n with impatience while setting his deck down.
"So be it, to bury one bitch I'll plan you a nice funeral! Call me Mister Saturday, I'll be your opponent!"
"Chime, can I count on you?"
"Affirmative. Allow me to do the talking. Simply repeat everything I say and do."
Y/n followed their instructions, speaking the same time as Mister Saturday did.
"Let's duel!"
The two parties shuffled their decks before drawing five cards. Y/n looked down at her hand. She had left hand shark, silent angler, lantern shark, swords of revealing light, and torrential tribute.
"Not a bad hand Y/n. Let your opponent go first."
Y/n nodded, hitting a button that offered to let her opponent go first.
"I'll take that generosity! Now, I activate the field spell Necrovalley!" The terrain on the field changed into that of a valley with a bright sun. "Next, I'll set one card face down on the field and end my turn!"
Y/n drew a card, it was buzzsaw shark. Y/n took a deep breath, following Chime's instructions exactly.
"I'll play buzzsaw shark in attack position, next I'll activate the effect of silent angler from my hand! If I control a water monster, I can special summon this card!" Y/n summoned silent angler in defense position. "Next, I'll use buzzsaw sharks effect! I can target one water type monster on my field and special summon one monster whose level is equal from my deck! Come on out, right hand shark!" Y/n said, playing the monster in attack mode.
"A bunch of guppies won't do you any good! The highest attack on your field is buzzsaw shark at a measly 1600!"
"Correct, however! I'll be using these guppies to summon an even bigger fish! I Xyz summon!"
The three monsters on the field turned into golden lights before flying up to the sky into a black swirling vortex. Descending from the cloud came a large shark monster with golden orbs flying around it.
"Number 32: shark drake!"
The monster had 2800 attack and 2100 defense. Y/n's opponent did not seem to waver as she ordered it to attack.
"Shark drake, attack his face down card!"
The monster flew over and the card flipped over revealing itself to be gravekeeper's spy! Before it was destroyed, Mister Saturday called out!
"My monsters effect activates! When flipped, I can summon a monster with fifteen hundred or less attack from my deck!"
Mister Saturday quickly summoned gravekeeper's noblemen in defense position. Gravekeeper's spy was destroyed, but Chime was going to press on the attack.
"I activate shark drakes effect! Once per turn after I destroy a monster, I can bring it back with 1000 less attack points in attack position, and then I can attack again!"
However, nothing happened. Mister Saturday laughed and explained what was happening.
"My necrovalley does not just give my monsters an additional 500 attack and defense, it also prevents cards from moving out of the graveyard! I'm afraid the dead stay dead, and your effect is negated!"
Y/n could feel Chime's irritation. She ended her turn allowing Mister Saturday to draw.
"I'll start my turn off by tribute summoning gravekeeper's nobleman to summon gravekeeper's chief!" A new monster appeared on the field, this one with 1900 attack. "That's not all! Its effect activates and allows me to summon a gravekeeper from my graveyard!"
"But wait! You can't move cards around due to necrovalley!" Y/n tried to call out the mistake.
"Not exactly, so long as my gravekeeper's chief is on the field my graveyard is unaffected by necrovalley! Now, welcome back gravekeeper's spy in defense position!"
The monster returned with 2500 defense. Chime had no idea if she should bother attacking considering how her own monster could not use its effect.
"With that, I'll set one card and end my turn!"
Mister Saturday set a card down in his spell and trap zone.
"My turn. I draw!" Y/n said drawing a card.
Y/n had gotten the spell card reload. She decided that she would save what cards she had for later.
"I'll attack gravekeeper's chief! Go, shark drake!"
As the hologram of the card rushed forward, Mister Saturday flipped over a trap card.
"I activate the trap card, dimensional prison! When your monster attacks, I banish it!"
Y/n watched helplesslylas the monster was sucked into a black portal. She clicked her tongue, being forced to end her turn.
"You can't beat death. No one can!" Mister Saturday said confidently, drawing a card.
"Speak for yourself!" Brook shouted from the bleachers.
"I'll send the card I just drew to the graveyard! By using gravekeeper's commandment, I can add one necrovally to my hand!"
Y/n was confused as to why he wanted to do that. Chime seemed in deep thought. Mister Saturday smirked as he held up a strange card.
"What is that and should I be worried?"
"That is polymerization, Y/n."
"Polymerization? I don't know what it does though!" Y/n said out loud.
"I'll tell you," Mister Saturday said with a wide grin. "This card allows me to fuse monsters in my hand or field from my extra deck! I'll be fusing gravekeeper's spy and gravekeeper's noblemen!"
The two monsters swirled together until a new monster appeared. Gravekeeper's supernaturalist. It had 2500 attack and 2500 defense.
"But wait, there is more! While necrovalley gives it a 500 attack and defense boost on the field, it also gains 100 attack and defense for the levels of the fusion materials!"
"So that means it gets an extra 900 attack and defense?!"
"Y/n, don't over explain. The people from the bleachers can read."
"Don't sass me Chime, this is bad!"
Gravekeeper's supernaturalist attack and defense rose 3900. That was almost half of Y/n's life points!
"Go gravekeeper's supernaturalist, attack her directly!"
The monster attacked Y/n, and she suddenly felt pain! She gritted her teeth, shocked by this as her life points went down to 4100.
"Why did that hurt?!"
"Because people love realism, baby!" Brook shouted.
Y/n drew her card, it was double fin shark. Chime knew they could work with this.
"From my hand, I summon lantern shark! When summoned, I can summon a level three, four, or five water monster from my hand! Come on out, double fin shark! Now, when double fin shark is summoned I can bring back a level three or four fish monster from my grave!"
"Not with necrovalley you can't!"
"Correct, however! I only need two monsters this time! I'll xyz summon, number 70: malevolent sin!"
The monster appeared with 2400 attack points and 1200 defense points. Mister Saturday narrowed his eyes.
"A bug? You send out a bug to deal with my gravekeeper?"
"Not just deal with it, banish it! By using one overlay unit, I can banish your monster until your next standby phase!"
"My monsters cannot be destroyed by card effects with gravekeeper's supernaturalist on the field!"
"It's not destruction, its banishment!"
Gravekeeper spiritualist was banished, and Y/n had their monster attack Mister Saturday directly. His life points drop to 5600.
"My monsters effect activates! When it battles, its rank goes up by three, and it gains 300 attack!"
Y/n's monsters attack rose, its attack was now 2800. Y/n ended her turn. Mister Saturday's monster returned to the field, but only with 2500 attack and defense. Its extra attack having been wiped from its banishment.
"You mortals always think you are so clever! Well, I draw!"
