IZABEL MADE HER WAY towards Slughorn's dinner party at an excruciatingly slow pace. The only other person whom she knew had been invited had fallen ill.

She had only gotten an invite to the slug club the previous day, and it was nowhere in her plans to go. Though, the girl knew that the guilt of skipping would not be something she could ignore.

The sound of her heels clicking on the marble floors echoed along the empty corridor. Her knuckles lightly tapped on the wooden door of the location written on the envelope that her professor had given her.

Forcing a smile at her Slughorn, Izabel made the decision of sitting next to Remus Lupin. "Hello." She mumbled, pulling out a chair.

"Izabel." He nodded in greeting. "How are you?"

The two weren't exactly friends, but they have gotten paired together a couple of times during prefect duties. Izabel had taken quite a friendly liking to the Gryffindor boy.

The two made small talk about their day before their potions professor got the dinner started. "Hello everyone. Welcome to the Slug-Club! You all are a group of extraordinary wizards and witches whom I believe deserve a nice get together."

Izabel wasn't daft. Around ten minutes in, she could tell that Slughorn had suspected that this group would do something big in the wizarding world one day, and he intended to be on their good side. Though, she would be lying if she said her ego hadn't been boosted slightly.

Usually, she had stayed quiet, talking only when she was spoken to. There were times, although, that the girl couldn't help but whisper a witty comment into Remus' ear.

Quiet giggles emerged from the two when they had noticed a seventh year boy stuffing his face with so much chocolate cake, it looked like he was drowning.

Remus pointed him out first, giving the girl a look with wide eyes and thinned lips as if he was trying not to laugh. Izabel couldn't help but lean towards Remus, eyes still on the older boy, and whispered "It looks like he has a face mask on. I wasn't aware we would be doing skincare at a dinner."

Remus laughed, covering his mouth in attempt to muffle his chuckles. Izabel was giggling too, playing with the hem of her dress to try and control herself.

"What's so funny, you two?" Slughorn asked, seemingly excited to hear the joke. The pair quickly shut up.

"Oh.." Remus trailed off, feeling extremely lucky when Izabel was able to make up an excuse for him. "Excuse us, professor. Lupin was just telling me a long story about an encounter he held with a toddler over the summer."

Her shoulders nearly sagged in relief when their professor seemed not to find interest in their conversation topic. After a while, Remus spoke quietly. "I need your ability to come up with lies so quickly."

Izabel smiled. "It's a gift."

After dinner, Remus had offered to let her borrow a book of his since she had mentioned she had lost her copy before being able to finish it.

They had walked in a nice silence towards the Gryffindor common room. This was up until they bumped into three very loud boys. "Moony! How was Sluggy?" Sirius asked before his eyes wandered towards Izabel.  "Oh hello, Izzy."

Izabel's lips twitched upwards. "Hello, Sirrie."

"What're you guys doing?" James questioned, eyebrows slightly furrowed.

"I was going to lend Izabel my copy of 'Pride and Prejudice'." Remus responded, causing James to frown. He stepped aside as the duo started walking once more.

"Since when was everyone friends with Lestrange?" Was all Izabel heard come out of James' mouth as she and Remus came up on the Gryffindor portrait. The slytherin girl had been told to wait outside but she couldn't stop herself from wandering around the unfamiliar corridor.

"Padfoot, let's talk about the bet." She heard right as she was going to turn a corner.

A voice she recognized as Sirius' spoke up. "Mate, I'm not sure anymore. It was fairly funny when we came up with it, but she is fairly nice, and she has a good sense of humour. I might feel bad. You've never even talked to her, Prongs."

She could almost hear James' pursed lips as she hid behind the wall. "You've been acting strange about this since you came back from summer. I'll have you know, I'm never one to back down from a challenge."

"Yeah, you're officially considered mental. Take back divination as an elective, would you?" Sirius laughed off his best friend's first comment, and deciding on ignoring the second one.

Their voices got quieter and when Izabel leaned to peak, she saw them nowhere in sight. Frowning, she made her way back to the portrait where Remus told her to wait.

She only managed to rock back and forth on her feet a couple times before the entrance swung open. "Here you go." The scarred boy offered her a small smile.

The girl excitedly skimmed through the book, already planning on thoroughly reading every note he's written in the margins. "Thank you, Lupin. I'll see you around, yeah?"

He nodded before muttering a 'goodbye', and watched as the dark haired girl skipped down the stairs.
