Warnings: blood, decapitation mentions, killing mentions, sorta sucidical?
I walked next to Newt as Gally led us through the old building. Unfortunately, I had lost the argument.
"We could always just go over them," I suggested, thinking about the wall.
"We can't fly Y/n," Alex said.
"People can fly if I throw them hard enough," I countered.
Alex covered his face.
Newt sighed again.
"Your girlfriend is crazier than I remember," Gally said to Newt.
Newt was silent for a second too long before he answered. "Actually, we broke up."
Gally stopped dead and turned to stare at us.
"No, you didn't," he looked between us.
"We did," I confirmed.
"Why?" Gally asked.
I made a face. "That is a very, very long story filled with betrayal, death, murder, and angst."
"Well, I no longer believe in love," Gally said and continued walking.
I frowned and followed him. Newt's gaze burned into the back of my head as I started walking with Alex.
"I'm assuming you've got a plan?" Alex said in a low voice.
"Step one, murder the Phoenix. Step two, find my siblings. Step three, die."
It took him a full minute to realise I was serious. "That's an awful plan."
"It's pure genius, simple but complicated. You mere mortal don't have the brain power to appreciate it."
Alex didn't bother to reply.
"So, how'd you get here?" Newt asked Gally.
"After the maze, I got picked up by a group headed to the city. They realised I was immune, patched me up and brought me here to Lawrence. This group's been at war with Wicked ever since they took control of the city. Day's gonna come and they're gonna pay for what they've done."
Newt accidentally bumped into a large man. "Oh, sorry."
"Watch it!" the man snapped, shoving Newt into me.
"Hey!" I snapped back instantly as I caught him. "Don't touch him!"
The giant man had the nerve to reach out to touch Newt. My vision went black. The next thing I became aware of was Newt gripping my arm and telling me to stop. My eyes were locked with the kneeling man's, my hand tightening around his throat. Whimpers of pain emitted from him caused by an ability I hardly ever used.
"Y/n?" Newt asked, slowly stepping in front of me. "Listen to me. He was being stupid. He didn't know what he was doing."
Élliot's phone rang in my pocket, startling me into breaking eye contact and releasing his throat. Trembling with carefully restrained anger, I pulled out the phone and read the name.
A grin split my face and I picked up. "Hey, sunshine."
"Do not murder that man!" Zuri said loud enough that everyone heard.
I glanced around at the people watching. "Are you here?"
"No."
I frowned, still scanning the crowd of onlookers. "But how-ugh, Élliot."
"Yes."
I rolled my eyes. "How's Denver?"
Zuri sighed. "Crank numbers are increasing. Do you think you could come help?"
