The music echoes through the room, the performance is going well so far but Rui and Ena can't help but feel uneasy, will their one week of hardwork succumb to nothing or will Ena have her happy ending
As they are coming to the end of their second song, the members except of course the oblivious Kanade exchange glances and mentally prepare for the big moment
The lights go out, everyone in the room is perplexed by the sudden depletion of light , just then a faint light colors the stage
Then the band starts playing again and then Ena, with all the courage she could build up begins to sing her confession
a faint yet warm smile forms on Kanade's lips, Ena returns the smile with one identical to her's, eyes full of adoration for Kanade
though the moment was indeed Ena and Kanade's,beside the two, just out of reach from the enchanting gleam of the spotlight,two guitarist resonate with each other, their eyes meet, and for one of the two,the world stopped for a moment and the dull gray monotonous colors of the world out of reach of the glow of the light was colored by colors of spring
The song comes to an end, Ena gives a small smile
"so Kanade, will.... you be my girlfriend? "
Kanade gives a kind smile accompanied by a nod,Ena runs up to her and hugs her she can't help but be on cloud nine, she did it, she really did it
as for Rui ,the moment was but bitter sweet, he was happy for his friend and that her confession was accepted but on the other hand he couldn't forget about his part of their deal
he glances over to Toya, but never did he expect him to already be looking right at him with a smile that lit up the whole stage,
ah, was he hallucinating? this... can't be real life, but with whatever courage he had, he smiled back
the band head backstage after their performance, Toya and Rui congratulate Ena and Kanade but Akito doesn't seem too happy about it, or atleast it seemed like it but, Akito too was happy for his sister, he just didn't want to show it
"Oh? Akito, you don't seem to be looking too happy for your sister" Rui points out with a smug face
"Eh? whatever... " Akito snaps back
"Don't pay attention to him Rui! he's just jealous I have a girlfriend now and he doesn't~" Ena joins in on the teasing
"That's not entirely true, I believe he has something going on with Azusawa, am I right?"Toya somewhat defends his friend
" Oi!! Toya you didn't have to bring that up!" Akito turns into a blushing mess, hiding his face while the others laugh at the state of him at just the mention of Kohane's name
An hour or two passes and the band finish bringing all of their equipment and instruments back to their studio, though they're pretty sure they lost a cymbal from Akito's drum kit
That day, as much as Rui tried to fulfill his part of the deal he just couldn't do it and soon a day passes and soon two weeks passes, and still Rui doesn't seem to be able to confess
and because of his inability to do so Ena has been nagging him, well of course she is after all it would be unfair if he didn't fufill his part of the deal
2 weeks and 3 days later, it's another day of practice, the band just finished practicing and start to get ready to leave
Rui sits down on the floor exhausted and zones out,ever since the confession Ena has been giving him a look that says "your turn" on her face, so even if he tries to distract himself from the task, he can't seem to escape it
just then someone taps him on the shoulder, it's Toya
"So Rui, you going home soon? I mean, it's just the two of us in the studio now"
Rui looks around, he realises their other bandmates have gone home while he was zoned out
"oh yeah I am.. "
"Let's go home together then"
Rui looks up and a slight blush colors his face, he nods and musters up a smile
and soon the two leave the studio too
the orange hues of the setting sun gently hug the city of Shibuya, the two boys walk side by side, the little gap between them feels like the size of a ravine, despite being so close, their hearts couldn't be further apart, or is it really?
As they continue to walk through the city Rui can't help but steal a glance at Toya, he looked especially pretty with the setting sun hugging his figure and that pretty face of his, fuck... he was really in love with this guy, he really was
Toya grabs Rui by the sleeve to get his attention
"hm? what is it Toya" Rui looks at Toya with a curious look
"Do you... want to swing on the swings with me... i know it's a little childish but I. .. kinda feel like it"
Toya says as he points towards a children's playground
Rui gives him a small gentle smile and a firm nod,
The two boys then go into the playground and sit on the swings
without really swinging the two boys just sit in a comfortable silence until Toya decides to speak up
"you know,it's been a while but i really admire Ena for having the courage to confess to Kanade like that the other day and in front of so many people at that... I wish i had the courage too, I wish I had the courage to confess to you too, ah.... I guess this would be a confession, wouldn't it?"
Toya looks down at the ground to hide the color of his face
Rui, wide eyed, looks at Toya without saying a word
Rui turns away, still unable to muster up anything, and now, to Toya it seemed like his confession had been rejected, he could almost feel tears forming in his eyes, but then he feels the sensation of another hand touching his, it was Rui's, Toya looks over to see a Rui who's become a blushing mess trying to hide his face with his other hand, Toya smiles at the older boy and intertwines their fingers
"So... it's safe to say I haven't been rejected?" Toya says in a gentle tone, you could almost see sparkles in his eyes
Rui just nods, it seems Toya's touch is doing a number on him, Toya smiles
"well if I'm not rejected then, would you... like to be my boyfriend?" Toya says with a hopeful expression
Rui, nods while still hiding his face
Toya has the brightest smile on his face
"well it's official then!"
And with that the two boys sit in comfortable silence,hands intertwined, the orange hues of the setting sun seems to be only shining for them, the world and that moment seemed to belong to them
