The sun rose early the next morning, and Tori woke up feeling a little better than she did the previous day. After sitting with Daryl for a little under an hour, watching the sun go down, she'd gone back to her tent and conked out almost immediately. Her head ached with exhaustion, making it easy to drift off and stay asleep all through the night, unlike usually where her sleep would be in broken and restless.
She'd only woken up when she got a waft of the smell of eggs cooking by the campfire, which was where she now sat on lawn chair eating her share of the pot of fresh scrambled eggs that hung over the low flames. Everyone else was sitting around, silently consuming the breakfast.
Glenn was the only one not eating, feeling too unsure of himself to do anything other than think about what he needed to get off his chest. He took of his baseball cap to wipe the sweat off his forehead as he looked over his shoulder, spotting Maggie standing on the front porch of her home. She shook her head at him, her arms folded as she turned away, marching into the house, and closing the door behind her.
With a heavy sigh, knowing he had no choice but to come clean, Glenn stood up and walked closer to the rest of his group, standing in front of them all. His palms were clammy as he clasped his hands together in front of him.
"So, uh..." he began with a stutter. Everyone was listening, though only a couple of people actually looked in his direction. He stated bluntly, "The barn's full of walkers."
That caught everyone's attention, eyes shooting up from their food to Glenn. Shane stood up, his almost empty bowl being dropped on the ground as he glowered at Glenn, then looked down toward the barn. He started marching his way over, Rick calling his name as everyone followed them both.
Seeing Glenn was worried, Tori ran in step beside him, placing a hand on his arm to assure him that he'd done the right thing in telling the group.
Whilst everyone kept their distance, Shane went over to the barn's double doors to peer inside through the gap. Even from where she was stood, Tori could hear the low groans of the walkers roaming around inside. It was a noise she feared, but unfortunately, was slowly getting used to hearing.
"You cannot tell me you're alright with this," Shane growled, storming back to the others, and glaring at Rick.
"No, I'm not," the sheriff uttered. "But we're guests here. This isn't our land."
"Oh God, this is our lives, man!" Shane snapped.
"Hey! Lower your voice," Glenn hissed.
Andrea folded her arms, "We can't just sweep this under the rug."
"We either gotta go in there-" Shane mumbled as he paced around. "-make this right, or we just gotta go. Now, we have been talking about Fort Benning for a long time."
"We can't go!" Rick insisted, his voice raspy.
"Why, Rick? Why?" Shane asked.
Tori watched the way Rick's eyes went to his wife. By now, he knew about Lori's pregnancy. The farm provided a safe place to stay, to live. They had food, water, shelter. None of them could give that up, especially not the expectant mother.
Before Rick had to say something about his family situation, Carol spoke up, "Because my daughter's still out there."
"Okay," Shane huffed. He scoffed a little, covering his face with his hands to gather himself before saying what he needed to. "Okay, I think it's time we all start to just consider the other possibility-"
"Shane!" Glenn cut him off before he could say any more.
"We're not leaving Sophia behind," Tori spoke up with a snap, standing closer to Carol as she defended her.
