Tears streamed from my eyes as I met my family backstage after my performance and I genuinely had no words because I did not expect to see my boys there. Seeing Aaron was the highlight of my night considering that he has my number blocked on his phone and I honestly thought that it would be weeks before he came back to me.
"I know that everyone wants to pretend that everything is fine between us but I want to say that I'm really happy that you're all here." I bite down on my bottom lip while looking at my children who are enjoying the pancakes I made them. "This is really nice."
Aaron chuckles, "Here comes the waterworks."
"Mom loves a good cry." Chase adds while winking at me and I playfully roll my eyes. "I remember the calendar she used to have in the hallway which would be marked off with her scheduled cry days."
I purse my lips at my children who are all laughing.
"Crying is actually good for you." I state but they ignore me so I shake my head while taking my seat at the table. "Where did your father go?"
"I'm right here." I look up to see Marshall standing besides me with a pitcher. "Made some strawberry lemonade."
Aaron lets out a low whistle as he reaches for his glass, "You better swing that round here."
"I live for your famous Strawberry Lemonade." Aaliyah says while filming us on her phone and I stick my tongue out as she turns it in my direction.
"Hey." I pull a face as a thought crosses my mind. "What's wrong with the strawberry lemonade that I make?"
Marshall chuckles while passing the pitcher to Aaron who doesn't waste any time in filling up his glass.
"Dad does it better." Marshall answers as our children act as if I didn't ask them and my ego is slightly bruised because I thought the shit I made.
"Whatever."
