Ch. 5 - Celeste's Perspective on Perry's Return

Celeste was lost in the joy of Amanda's company, their laughter filling the room as they sat on the couch, talking like old friends. The concerns of the outside world had momentarily faded away, and she didn't hear Perry's car pulling into the driveway.

Suddenly, the front door burst open, and Perry's furious voice shattered the tranquility. "What is going on here?" he demanded, his eyes ablaze with anger.

Celeste's heart stopped, a cold shock of fear washing over her. "Perry, you're home early! We were just—"

"Just what?" Perry snapped, cutting her off, his gaze now fixed on Amanda with suspicion.

"What are you doing here?" Perry continued, his voice dripping with accusation.

Celeste felt a tremor of panic as she looked at Amanda, who had risen from the couch, her face reflecting shock but also a calm assertiveness. "Perry, I understand that this might be surprising, but there's an explanation," Amanda replied, her voice steady.

"I'd like to hear it, then!" Perry growled, his anger unabated.

The room felt suffocating as tension settled like a thick fog. Celeste's mind was racing, fear and confusion battling within her as she watched Amanda explain their evolving relationship and the reasons behind it.

As Amanda spoke, Celeste saw Perry's anger gradually subside, replaced by confusion, then a reluctant understanding. But there was something else in his eyes—a lingering doubt, a mistrust that sent a chill down her spine.

"You're just friends now?" Perry finally asked, his voice heavy with skepticism.

"Yes," Amanda replied firmly, her eyes meeting Perry's. "Friends. Nothing more."
