Past

I never really forgave my father. The anger surging in me had no limits. I craved a father's love, but he refused to acknowledge me, my birth and my existence! For goodness sake, I was forgotten, to such an extinct that I was termed as the rumored princess!

I had never really given a damn about the title, but what bugged me was that I was forgotten. Thinking about father's gesture that one moment, made my head burn and the other second wash in guilt.

"Ouch!" the tip of my finger was bleeding due to the thorn that poked me while I was collecting the roses that were to drift away from their homes. Three days, it had been three days since I had been brought here. A Palace with a posh that could be felt from its walls without even stepping inside!

I was brought here as Meera's daughter. I could see in her eyes, the pain, for me. She cried when I did. I despised watching her get hurt and cry due to me. She was my only family here. I made a promise to myself to never cry.

Wiping the blood from my dupatta I continued collecting the beauties. It was supposed to be for the royal celebration, jashan for my father's defeat. I did not feel anything. This made me feel guilty even more why wasn't I feeling anything?

Filling the basket with the roses, I raced through the bushes, the flowers, the trees, it made me feel free and suddenly thud! I fell with an equivalent opposing force, as I crashed into someone.

The roses had all been scattered on the ground! Without a second thought I began collecting them. "Here you go." I heard a voice. I raised my head to see a boy who seemed to be of my age plant those roses back into my basket.

I nodded at him, and hurriedly made my way to the head maid, without much thought. Bringing them to her, made me earn validation? A praise? maybe was it the acknowledgment that made me happy, and my heart warm.

I existed here, I was not forgotten. "How was your day today Rajkumari?" Meera asked me later that night, her voice seemed tired. She had been working double, for me as well for her.

"Aaj hum shahi bagiche mein gaye the. Hume bohot maza aya." I smiled.

Watching me happy she smiled as well. "Hume shama kar dijiye rajkumari." She told with slight tears in her eyes.

"Yeh saab aap ke liye kitna mushkil hoga." She continued.

I did feel a little sad, but here I'm not a rumor. I am living, they acknowledge my presence.

"Humne kaha hume maza aya." I gave her my huge smile and hugged her. "Balki hum apke shukrguzar hein ki aapke karan aaj hum yaha sahi salamat hein."

She touched my palm softy, and with that we smiled till our heart's content, in that very moment, aware how tedious it was all about to be. Smiling through the pain. I was her pillar of support. She had gone through a lot already and I couldn't bring her more misery.
