Time passed like flowing river for Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian in Cloud Recesses. While it was not entirely turbulence free, it was mostly peaceful. It was their 10th summer together this year but their passion had yet to subside. Since they'd been through hell and back to get together, every day they spent together was precious and indispensible to them. Since Lan Xichen had gone into hiding, Lan Qiren had taken the command as the sect leader but he was getting on in years and wanted to retire peacefully or at least as peacefully as he could knowing that the cabbage he raised so preciously all these years was being eaten by this pig Wei Wuxian day in and day out. Hence, Lan Xichen had to cut short his seclusion and he was forced to come out of hiding to resume his duties as the leader of Lan Sect. Losing both his Sworn Brothers so tragically and being so thoroughly deceived by one of them for so many years had been a huge blow to him. That was the person he trusted the most, had shared every small details of his life with, who was his biggest confidant and had helped him when he was at his lowest and most wretched. Which is why, despite being aware of all the heinous crimes he had committed and despite all his white lies, he wanted him to be able to live at the very least. Although his mind was aware of his flaws, his heart was not ready to accept that this was the same person he'd been through thick and thin with. Extinguishing the dimmed flame of his life with his own hands had been excruciatingly painful for him and he probably would never be able to make peace with that fact. But life must go on and duties must be fulfilled. Lan Wangji was of the notion that being alone for too long would not be good for him and being busy with sect matters might help him keep his mind off of the past events so he was very much in favor of Lan Xichen ending his seclusion while he wholeheartedly dedicated himself to sharing the burden of his older brother and became increasingly busier as the days went by.

But Alas! It was absolute hell for Wei Wuxian this loiterer who now had to assume the duties of Lan Sect's matriarch since the Sect leader had yet to marry and he in all legalities was considered the spouse of the younger Lan brother. He could no longer loiter around as he wanted and had to stay in the cloud recesses to look over all of the household matters. Be it managing the spendings of the sect or allocating budget or hosting banquets and putting on facades of amicability with all kinds of people, it was simply too much for him to put up with. On top of that, he could not see his rejuvenating pill Lan Wangji for long periods of time as he would be travelling due to various sect matters and this put Wei Wuxian in a terrible mood. Wangji usually would only be gone for a day at most and be back by night to him and if he was going on a longer journey, he would take Wei Wuxian with him but this time he'd been gone for three and a half days already. Hence, coupled with that fact, his irritability shot through the roof. Just when he thought that he would go crazy out of boredom, he got the news that Han Guangjun was back and would be joining them for supper. Wei Wuxian felt like his soul which was gradually leaving his body suddenly returned. He wanted to quickly run to Lan Wangji, wrap himself around him like vines and kiss him to his heart's content but then he quickly stopped himself from doing so. He suddenly thought of a mischief and wanted to tease Lan Wangji and thus, decided to avoid him for the time being. When Lan Wangji came looking for him, he completely ignored him while busying himself with trivial tasks such as looking at the ingredients required for the supper. Lan Wangji stood on the side and stared at him despondently. Wei Wuxian couldn't take it anymore and asked

"You must be tired from the long journey Lan Zhan. Why don't you freshen up and rest while I make the arrangements for supper? Or do you have something important to tell me?

Lan Wangji "......No"

Wei Wuxian gave him a look that said 'why aren't you leaving then? Can't you see that I'm busy?'

Lan Wangji let out a faint sigh and turned to leave. Seeing him leave so dejectedly, Wei Wuxian's heart turned into mush. He almost couldn't stop himself from pouncing on him. But it was alright since he would have his fill of Lan Wangji tonight.
