Chapter 13: Competition

I quickly walk down the hall and towards the exit, still terrified about the last wielder of my magical item. Once I'm at the exit I stand at the top of the stairs and pull out the dagger. I stare at it a moment then whisper to it. "You knew that I'm a Sleet, didn't you?" The dagger glows bright then stops, revealing the answer to be yes. I take a deep breath then place it back in its sheath.

I walk down the steps and as my last foot is placed on the ground I see Brandon standing at the side talking to Demetrey. When Demetrey's eyes land on me he quickly smiles and walks towards me. Brandon quickly follows. "Well hello there cutie, long time no see?" I roll my eyes, "you just saw me this morning and you and my roommate looked as though you're gonna fight." He laughs, "what can I say your worth fighting for, and considering I was named top of the class and is gonna go to the big tag team fight, I would say I would win."

I smirk, "oh so your already in the fight, as well?" Both Brandon and Demetry look at me in shock. Brandon quickly retorts, "wait your gonna be in the fight representing the ice magic users?" I nod, "yep the professor told me before I came out here." Demetrey smiles, "nice and since it's a tag team situation we can totally team up." I laugh, "sure but I kinda wanna know who else is gonna be in the fight and the fighting styles they use, before I pick a partner." He looks at me a bit disappointed then smile, "it's all good I'll tell you everything about myself so you can make a n informed decision."

Demetrey then walks beside me and places a arm around my shoulders, "I think you'll like what you hear." I roll my eyes once again, "I already know your a earth magic user." He nods, "yes, I am but I also train using the knight style and my magical item is these boots I'm wearing." I look down at the dark brown boots, "ok cool, thanks for the information I'll take it into consideration." I look at Brandon who looks completely shattered that he isn't a part of this. "Hey Brandon, don't worry you still have a whole week to get better and get chosen for the fight." He perks up a bit, "Really?" I nod, "yeah and between training and your classes I can help you with your spells." He smiles happily as we quickly approach the dormitory."

Standing at the entrance was Austin. He quickly smiles at me when he laid eyes on me. He looks a bit pissed when he sees Demetrey's arm is still around me. He walks over pretty fast and looks at Demetrey with a smug grin. "So how did class go, Darius?" I smile, "oh nothing much, just got told I'm the strongest in class as of right now." He smirks at me, "so does that mean your gonna be in the big tag team fight?" I nod then look to him as he smiles brightly, "great then that makes two of us." Demetrey then looks at him, "actually three of us." Austin then looks at me, "oh so I guess that means you two are teaming up?" I shake my head, "actually I wanted to do some recon before I choose someone as my partner."

He looks at Demetrey, "very responsible of you." I nod then watch as Demetrey and Austin continue to stare at one another menacingly. I look at Brandon and he just shrugs his shoulders. I point to Demetrey then back at Brandon and he quickly catches on to what I'm doing. I move out from under Demetrey's arm then look at Austin, "hey didn't we have something to do in our dorm?" He smirks at me, "oh yeah we better get up there and do that thing." Demetrey looks at us confused for a moment and tries to say something but we are already darting off inside before he could.

We get back into our room and I quickly look at Austin, "what's up with you two?" He looks at me questioningly. "What are you talking about?" I roll my eyes in frustration at this point then say, "you two are literally having a pissing competition, and from where I'm standing it looks like it's over me." Austin takes a deep breath then looks at me with a bright red blush on his face. "Uhm the thing is that well we both like someone or something and don't want the other to have it. In a way it's jealousy to the max." I nod then say, "alright but why is it over me? Wait do you have a crush on me Austin?" He nods slowly, "I thought you figured that out the last time we hung out."

I stood in shock for a moment, simply because I never gave it much thought about him liking me. I thought it was all on my end and that I was making it awkward, but now that I think about it makes sense now. He rubs his shoulder, "so what do you think?" I look at him for a moment shocked, "I mean I don't know, I won't lie and say that I don't feel anything for you it's just I'm not use to this." He looks at me with a smile, "so does that mean I have a chance?" I nod to him with a blush slowly growing on my face. He smiles then says, "so about the tag team fights, I have some very important intel. I know who the others are and even one team. Do you want to know them?" I nod my head as he then tells me everything he knows. "So the water magic person is teamed with Cyrus?" He nods, "yeah and from the sounds of it they already knew each other before the academy."

I hold my chin for a second, "water conducts electricity so they will be hard to beat. I look down at my magical item, "hey Austin what's your magic item?" He nods, "ooh it's kinda weird because I heard you tell our supervisor about your dagger. Mine is also a dagger, but I just keep mine on top of my night stand." I smirk, "cool so we know one team is water and electric, and the electric is an assassin style fighter. I think I've made up my mind on who I want to team up with." He looks at me shocked, "who is it?" I look at him with a smirk, "you of course. It's simple no one will suspect the total opposites to team up, and since we're roommates we can have a bit more advantage by knowing more about one another."

He nodded to me, "I agree so we are partners, and tomorrow we will spare together so we can really focus on each other's weakness." I nod, "but we need to keep our partnership quiet to the last minute so it really throws everyone off." He smirks, "damn you're kinda sneaky." I nod, "now let's relax for today then get ready for a brutal fight in the near future." He nods then taps his thigh, "wanna watch a movie with your partner?" I laugh that, "sounds like fun, let's do it."
