Soulmate AU where Wales can see the strings connecting two soulmates together because Wales is old and a demigod

Thank you for 500 reads!

Wales hummed as an unfamiliar person entered their domain. Three people she didn't recognize immediately. She sat out of sight on the ceiling joists of her place, on a pillow where the sun hit her rough skin for most of the day because of the window placement.

Her light green eyes shot wide open. "I'd never expect you to come to the isles." She said, jumping down. The male shouted out in surprise, only held in place by the kingdom's iron grip.

The French Kingdom sneered, but bowed to the other nonetheless. Her daughter followed and reading the room, the man bowed along with them.

"I want you to check my daughter's string," the kingdom said, standing straight and proud.

Wales hummed and her tail flicked to the side. "I don't do charity work, Kingdom. I take sacrifice, or an offering of riches or food." Wales mostly said sacrifice to scare the poor man, who was clearly engaged to her uninterested daughter.

Kingdom of France scoffed, and threw a pouch tied to her waist at Wales. Inside were countless coins. Wales weighed it with her hand and peered inside. She smiled, and threw it up onto the hidden loft where she kept the offerings desperate souls gave to find their destined lover.

It was always upsetting for Wales to tell the person their lover was dead, or they were fated to be alone rather than explain that only countries, their heirs and the like were given soulmates.

"Stay still, now." Wales commanded, expanding her wings and muttering a chant. The man screamed and repeated one word in French: Witch. The Kingdom of France slapped him and commanded him to hush.

The world went grayscale, except for two things: A red string, a white string, and a yellow string. The red string came from the French Kingdom's daughter; the Princess of France, or her heir. Her string was oddly loose.

The string wasn't connected to the man. It snaked out the door, giving off a strong glow.

Wales didn't restrain herself from looking at Kingdom of France's strings. A yellow and white one. The white one represented a dead soulmate, and the yellow an enemy. The yellow one was tense and also led out the door, while the white string wrapped around her neck.

Beheaded, she silently noted, returning to the real world.

"I'm sorry, but it is not meant to be." Wales told them, bowing slightly to obstruct her smile. The French princess sighed in relief, holding her hand to her heart. The man was about to begin shouting again, but Kingdom of France jerked on his arm and stomped out, not caring if her daughter was following.

France bowed to the dragon lady. "Thank you, Ma'am. My sights are already set on another man. Maybe after this, she'll stop trying to find suitors." Her tone was bright and hopeful.

Wales chuckled, telling her to stand tall and proud. "My dear, you're true love is near. The string is loose. I've heard rumours of you fancying my grandson, and it happens he's on his way to visit. Convince your mother to stay for a day or two more, then come to me. He'll be here, and I'll see if it is truly him."

France paused, and she bowed again. "I'll see what I can do, Madam. Thank you." She struggled to hide the excitement. Her shoes clicked on the floor as she hurried out to follow her mother.

Wales grinned, and with a strong flap of her wings, she returned to the ceiling joists. Once again, she took her place on the pillow. Sighing, she relaxed under the sun's gentle rays.
