The next day it was the same scenario, Violet once again couldn't find any of her teammates. She had checked the training rooms, and the gardens, basically she had looked everywhere except for the library. She made her way there and found Everet with a stack of books beside him and papers in front of him. She walked towards his direction and sat down in front of him. Everet looked ahead of him and sighed in relief.
"Am I glad you're here. I was about to get my scroll and call you to help me out a little bit. I'm almost done with this writing project but I just can't understand some stuff."
"Where are Rinni and Rhys anyways?"
"Oh, Rinni said her parents were gonna be visiting Vale so she left really early and waited for them by the docks. Rhys, I don't know where he went. When I woke up, Rhys was already gone, and Rinni was just about to leave."
"So they bailed on you?"
"Pretty much, yeah, they bailed on me. Also, I would have woken you up but since today was a free day I thought you could sleep in a little bit."
"I appreciate that. Now, where exactly are you having a hard time?"
Everet then pointed it out, and Violet began to read it and explain it to Everet. They spent a few hours in the library, with her correcting Everet from time to time. It was almost lunchtime by the time they finished.
"Finally done. Thanks, Violet"
"No problem Everet"
"There you two are. I was looking for you both." Rinni said as she walked towards her teammates
"I thought you'd be gone all day?" Everet asked
"Nah, it was a quick visit. My parents just needed some stuff here. They mostly asked how everything was here and stuff like that."
Rinni sat down next to Violet.
"So you're done with the writing project Dr. Oobleck told you to do?" Rinni asked
"Yup. I managed to finish it with Violet's help. She didn't bail on me like "someone" did" Everet uttered, putting emphasis on the word someone
"Hey! It was family! You can't blame me. And knowing you, you would do the same."
"You have to admit, she is right" Violet said agreeing with Rinni
"Well... Fair enough..."
The three shared a short laugh before they began cleaning up the table they used. Everet cleared up his papers and the two females returned some of the books to their respective shelves.
"You know Rinni, all I've heard from you about your family is about your grandfather and your siblings. You never talked about your parents."
"I haven't? Huh... I guess it's because I don't really know what to talk about when it comes to them."
"Really?"
"Yeah, don't get me wrong, they're great parents but I'm just clueless on what I can say about them. They're both a huntsman and huntress duo in Mistral. They're mostly either tasked to protect the train to Argus or go to some villages that have a grimm or bandit problem."
"Bandit problem?"
"Yup, there are groups of bandits in Mistral but none are as infamous as the Branwen Tribe. But my parents usually deal with the aftermath. That's how they found me to be honest."
"Found you? What do you mean by that?"
"Right... I never told you guys about this but my parents aren't my real parents. Some bandits attacked the village I lived in and you know what happened next. People panic, and then the grimm comes. Apparently, I was the only survivor, at least that's what my parents say."
"I'm... I'm sorry that I asked...:"
"Nah, don't be sorry about it. I couldn't remember what happened. My parents said they found me when I was like, 4 or 5 years old. Again, don't be sorry about it. I've moved on and live my life as it is now."
Silence fell between the two before Rinni decided to speak again.
"You know, I've always told my family that I feel like a part of me is missing, and I'm not talking about the soulmate thing or anything romantic like some people would assume I would think. It's also not a parental thing because my parents were also and gave me everything both needed and wanted to the point that I don't need or feel like finding any of my blood relatives, especially my birth parents... All my life or at least as far as I can remember I've felt this... empty feeling, that's always been missing, and no matter what my family did, the emptiness was never filled. Don't get me wrong, like I said, my parents are great, and so are my siblings and grandpa, but... It was never filled, that was until I met you guys. Everything feels different from how it was before. I don't know how to really explain it... But it just feels different, like I'm finally whole..."
"Well, I'm glad if that's the case." Violet said with a smile
The two continued to put away books in silence. Once they were done, they went back to check on Everet. Rhys had arrived while the two huntresses-in-training were putting away books. Rhys then began to sign up for the team. They patiently waited for him to finish before they said anything.
"Alright then. Let's go to the city to help Miss Walters." Rinni said
The four teens headed off to the landing docks before boarding an airship that would take them down to Vale. Once there Rhys led them to Melanie Walters's home. Rhys opened the door to the house and Violet was the first to step in the house but a loud pop came from behind her. She jumped a little bit, then noticed the confetti that was falling to the ground. Looking behind her, she saw the two boys holding a banner with Rinni holding a popped party popper. Written on the banner was Happy Birthday Violet. Her teammates were smiling at her.
"Happy birthday Vi." Rinni
"Yeah, Happy Birthday Violet" said Everet as Rhys signed
"H-how did you know?" She asked in bewilderment
"Well, I asked Professor Ozpin. Believe me, it wasn't easy." Rinni answered
"She lies, it was actually easy." Everet contradicted
"Okay fine, yeah it was easy. I was just curious about everyone's birthdays."
"When you could have asked us." Everet countered
"What's the point in that? No surprises? Boring if you ask me."
"So that's why you lied about being in the training rooms yesterday."
"Wait, you knew about that?" Rinni asked
"Of course I did. I was looking for you all yesterday."
"Alright, enough of that. Why don't you kids come in and have some cake and celebrate your teammate's birthday." Ms. Walters said
The four teens went inside the house and had a small celebration of Violet's birthday. They ate cake and she opened the gifts her teammates got for her. Rhys got his partner a new cardigan. Everet got her a new dress. Rinni's gift was a lot smaller compared to the others. She opened the gift to find a necklace with a pendant that had her emblem on it, and below it on a second small chain was the team's name. She smiled and hugged her teammates. After the hug, the team continued to celebrate Violet's birthday. They went back to Beacon, and rested up for the next day.
