I followed my social worker into my new foster placement. There were two women at the door waiting for us.

"Hey. You must be Aaliyah," The older redhead said.

"All day everyday," I said.

"I'm Addison and this is my wife Meredith," The redhead said.

"Hi," I said.

"Hi," Meredith said. "Come on in. Are you hungry?" I shook my head.

"No thank you," I said.

"Okay. The others will be home from school within the next hour. So how about we do the tour now before it gets a little crazy around here?" Addison asked. I nodded.

"Okay," I said.

"Kitchen. You can use the kitchen to cook yourself a meal as long as you're careful. This is the snack bin-" I zoned out until a hand waved in front of my face. "Sorry," I said.

"This is a lot. So let's make it shorter. Kitchen. Living room. Garden. Playroom and the garage," Meredith said. "Now upstairs is even easier. All the bedrooms are labelled," I followed Meredith upstairs. "Your room is in between Elliot and Max's rooms. There's one bathroom next to Cobi's room and a bathroom beside our room. Take your time and unpack,"

"I have a backpack. It shouldn't take too long," I joked.

"We'll get you some clothes and things," Meredith said as we walked back downstairs.

"That was quick," My social worker said.

"Already found my escape route," I joked.

"I am not chasing you through 5 states again," My social worker said.

"It was a joke," I said.

"She's a runner," My social worker told Addison and Meredith. "I recommend locking windows," My social worker said. "Maybe even doors,"

"This time could be different," I said.

"We hope so," Meredith said. I nodded.

Timeskip

I was sat in my room staring at the ceiling. My door knocked. I sat up.

"Hey," Addison said.

"Hi," I said.

"Are you hungry? The others usually have a snack when they come in after school," Addison said.

"Can I have cereal please?" I asked.

"Yeah. Let's go see what cereal you want," Addison said. I followed her downstairs. "Here's the cereal.  Milk is in the fridge. Help yourself,"

"You don't yell," I said.

"What?" Addison asked as I made my bowl of cereal.

"I think this is the longest I've lasted without getting yelled at," I said.

"We quickly learned that yelling doesn't get much done around here," Addison said. "Is there anything else you wanna talk about before it gets little insane around here?" I shook my head.
