It was night when we arrived at wherever we were taken.
We didn't have much time to react because we were rushed in and pushed into a room. Something was happening because people were shooting as we ran inside.
At first it was dark in the room, but when the lights turn on y'all stared at what was in front of us.
There was a table, it was full of food, a feast. Everyone ran to the table. I never tasted food so good in a long time. Everyone was stuffing their faces until the table was empty. We didn't leave a scrap.

I think it was about an hour after that someone came in. A man he resembled a rat in my mind, Rat Man.

"You kids doing all right?" Rat Man asked as we all walked up to the door. "Sorry about all the fuss. We had ourselves a bit of a swarm."

    "Who are you?" Thomas asked.

"I'm the reason you're all still alive. It's my intention to keep you that way. Now, come with me. We'll get you kids squared away." Rat Man walked out.
We followed him as he let us through the building. "You can call me, Mr. Janson. I run this place."

"I'm sticking with Rat Man." I whisper to Minho and he held back a laugh.

Other people passed by us, but they didn't really care.
"For us it is a sanctuary, safe from the horrors of the outside world. You all should think of it as a way station. Kind of a home between homes. Watch yourselves." Rat Man pointed up at a sparking light.

"That mean you're taking us home?" Thomas asked.

"A home of sorts." Rat Man replied. "Sadly, there wouldn't be much left of wherever you came from. But we do have a place for you. A refuge, outside the Scorch, where WICKED will never find you again. How does that sound?"

"Why are you helping us?" Minho wondered.

"Let's just say the world out there is in a rather precarious situation. We're all hanging on by a very thin thread. The fact that you kids can survive the Flare virus makes you the best chance of humanity's continued survival. Unfortunately, it also makes you a target, as no doubt by now you've noticed. Beyond this door, lies the beginning of your new lives." Rat Man swiped, a card and a big metal door lifted up into a bright white hallway, I would use the word clean, only that would be lying. It wasn't particularly dirty, but along the bottoms of the walls, it was stained brown, and some of the white paint was scratch. "First things first, let's do something about that smell."

We had showers back in the Glade but they didn't have heating. A warm shower felt amazing. I'm not even sure if I had one before. I probably have, but in three years I haven't. The boys have a separate shower room so it's only me and Teresa in ours.
I washed myself enjoying the waterer.
I brushed through the knots in my hair and dried myself off with a soft towel.
I put new clothes on that were left out for me, Teresa had already finished so it was just me at the moment. I found my old clothes that I discarded on the floor. I felt through my pockets and they weren't empty. I pulled out one of the syringes that Teresa came up with. I looked it over and stuffed it in my pockets before getting up.

I was brought into a lab next. All sorts of things were going on. I walked past Minho who was running on a treadmill. A scientist let me over to a station.

"What are you gonna do?" I asked.

"Just need some blood." The scientist told me.

I smile at Newt who sat across from me.

I sat in a large cafeteria many other boys and girls sat at the tables. I sat down beside Newt and the other boys they're in my Maze.
Apparently all the kids here were in their own Maze.

"Hey, Thomas!" Minho called, standing up and walking over to Thomas as he stepped in the room. Minho lead Thomas over to our table.

"And there was this big loud explosion, and these guys came out of nowhere. Started shooting up the place." A boy named David explained, he was from another Maze with boys.

"It was intense." Another boy from the same Maze said.

"They pulled us out of the Maze and brought us here." David continued.

"What about the rest? The other people left behind in the Maze, what happened to them?" Newt asked.

"I don't know." David said. "I guess WICKED still has them."

"How long have you guys been here?" Newt asked.

"Not long. Just a day or two. That kid over there has been here the longest." David looked over at a boy who sat alone his hood pulled up. "Almost a week."

"His Maze was nothing but girls." The boy that was in the same Maze as David said jealous.

"Really?" Minho asked.

"Some guys have all the luck." David smiled.

"I got all the luck I needed." Newt smiled putting his arm around me.

"I can't disagree with you on that." David smiled looking me up and down. I didn't look up a Newt but I feel the tension and the glare he was giving David. "I was joking calm down."

"Good evening, gentlemen. Ladies." Rat Man called I turn to see him walk in with two other men behind him. "You all know how this works. If you hear your name call please rise in an orderly fashion, join my colleagues behind me, where they will escort you to the eastern wing. Your new lives are about to begin."
The cafeteria was completely silent as he looked at the names. "Connor." A boy at a table behind us celebrated with his friend before walking over. "Evelyn. Justin. Peter. Allison. Squiggy." People laughed at that name. "All right settle down. Franklin. And Abigail." Rat Man finished.
Everyone else groaned. "Now, now, don't get discouraged. If I could take more I would. There's always tomorrow. Your time will come. Go on, eat up."
People clapped as Rat Man left. The kids that were called, walked out in single file through some doors, I didn't see where they went from there.
