Lux's POV
Today is the big day. Jared is picking me up at 1 this afternoon to go to the outdoor concert.
I quickly check my phone to see the time.
11:07
Two hours, that's plenty of time.
I walk over to my closet and stare into it with a blank expression on my face.
I have absolutely no idea what to wear.As if on cue I hear a knock on my door.
"Come in!"
"Hey kid, what's up?" Jen asks as she sits on my bed and pulls her legs up and sits crossed legged.
"I have that date with Jared today at 1 and I'm kinda nervous." I answer.
"And to top it off, I have no idea what to wear to the concert." I continue to rant.
"You want help getting ready?" She asks me as she starts get up.
"Yes please." I accept graciously.
"Let's see what we can do in 3 hours." She says grabbing a handful of my hair and throwing it in my face playfully.
The next two hours go by in a blur.
Clothes strewn from every corner, makeup scattered on my desk, and many pairs of shoes on the floor.
Even through all the chaos, not once have I seen myself until Jen finally finished curling my hair.
"There all finished!" Mom announces and unplugs the curling wand.
I slowly get up from my chair and stand in front of the mirror still with eyes closed. When I do open my eyes I'm shocked at what I see.
My curled hair matches perfectly with the outfit Mom picked out. A simple floral dress with a cream coloured cardigan.
A perfect outfit for a hopefully perfect date.
"I love it! I mean me, the outfit. What I'm trying to say i-" I quickly ramble on.
"Thank you Mom for everything. Not just the outfit but for adopting me and always being honest with me." I say and go in to hug her.
Jen's POV
"...honest with me."
I hug Lux back tightly for a long time before finally letting go.
I should be happy right now but I'm not. I haven't been 100% honest with Lux at all.
I've kept the court case for custody from her and that guilt is slowly eating me away.
I should just tell her. I have to.
"Hey Lux, I have to tell you something." I call to her and she turns her body to face me.
"What's up?"
"You don't know about this but... I have this bag that would go perfect with that outfit." I avoid telling her the truth once again.
"Um that was the big news?" She asks me in utter confusion.
"Yeah that's the big news." I lie and offer a weak smile.
"Well young lady we should head into the living room, Jared will be here soon."

Jen's POV
*Ding Dong*
"That should be him." I say as a stand up to face Jen.
"Okay I'll see you later!" She says as she pulls me in for a tight hug.
