To anyone reading this... Hi. I can't even tell you how hard it is to be here, writing this, after I've spent the last year writing this fanfiction.

I absolutely LOVE the Netflix adaptation of A Series Of Unfortunate Events. I fell in love with the characters and the bleak storylines from the very first time I watched the show, in 2020, and that didn't change when I decided to rewatch it a year later.

It was during that rewatch that I came up with the idea for this story. As I watched it, I kept thinking: "What if the Baudelaires had a friend who was with them every step of the way?". And then I came up with Alice.

I started taking notes of things I would add onto the episodes, of scenes I could write to make the story even more special.

But I'm slow in my writing. Really slow. And lazy, too. And in the blink of an eye, it's been more than a year that I've been writing this.

And I'm not going to lie – I don't feel motivated to write this story anymore. Of course, I still love the show, and I will absolutely watch it for the third time someday, but I don't feel like writing Better Than Nothing.

I would love to be able to convey the story until the very end for you to read, so you could see it play out the way I did in my head so many months ago.

But I don't want to force myself to write it. Writing is supposed to be fun. And if you aren't having fun and are forcing yourself to write something, then maybe you shouldn't.

I sat down today thinking I would be writing another chapter. Then I realized I didn't really want to. I thought of writing until the end of the first season, but I just can't find it in myself to do it.

I won't delete this fanfic. I won't. You can come back and read the existing chapters any time you want, and I even encourage you to imagine how it would play out beyond the Reptile Room arc.

I assure you that I planned on giving everyone the happy ending they deserved because the Baudelaires have been through SO much and they honestly deserve to be happy for the rest of their long lives.

This is not goodbye. I will be writing other things from now on, and you can check out my previous works, too. And who knows, maybe one day I'll come back and pick up where I left off, and finally see this fanfic through.

For now, I say farewell to these characters. I loved them to the moon and to Saturn, and I'm sure you did too.

Love you all,
Beatrice xoxo.
