What exactly is The Flow in Just Dance lore?

It's a concept at the border between positive psychology and motivational psychology. According to Mihály Csíkszentmihályi [from whom the name Mihaly comes], the flow is a state between satisfaction and euphoria caused by total devotion to an activity.

According to the author, the word "flow" can describe a state of mind in which people are so focused on a given task that everything else seems to disappear. [People around Mihaly at the beginning of "Rather Be"] The internal dialogue becomes milder, the sense of time is changed, and external motivation ceases to matter. Consciousness and attention are inseparably focused on the activity performed.

People who experienced this condition often compared it to being floated by water [Mihaly in the canyon]. The Flow can be felt when doing a variety of sports, mainly relaxing ones like yoga, running, swimming, figure skating, climbing, meditation or dancing and listening to music [presented in "Rather Be"].

This state can also be a very good motivator for action. The desire to feel this happiness or euphoria again stimulates the person to continue performing a specific activity.

Unlike ordinary life, where The Flow is primarily a state of mind and a feeling of happiness, in the world of Just Dance it gives incredible power; it is The Flow that allows you to create portals, teleport, transform others or create magical things.

Most coaches can only feel it when they dance. The more you show yourself in the dance, the more you feel it. It's a kind of gigantic feeling of happiness. However, there are exceptions that can benefit from the power of The Flow. These characters are: The Traveler, Wanderlust, Master Panda and Night Swan. It is these characters who can use this power for good and evil.

Using the flow can also be learned and improved, as Mihaly showed in "Rather Be". Under Master Panda's care, they mastered that power. We will probably learn more about this power in the new DLC.
