Epilogue (Part 1)

"I think she has a crush on you," Lui said in a sing-song tone.

Tahimik sana akong nag-aaral pero napatingin ako sa gawi nila Rhys at Lui. Rhys was also studying, but as usual, Lui was being a pest. Hawak niya iyong phone niya at may pinapakita roon kay Rhys.

"See? She's cute, right?"

"I don't care," Rhys replied. "I'm studying, Lui."

"You've been reading the same shit three times already."

"Exactly. For mastery."

"Mastery my ass. You just want Ms. Viste's attention."

Rhys looked at him and frowned. He's from a family of doctors. His family's got some hospitals in the province. When I asked one time why he got into law instead of medicine, he said that he's from a family of criminals that's why he wants to study the law.

Out of curiosity, inabot ko iyong phone ni Lui.

Deanne

Right. I actually saw her around already. If we were close, I'd tell her that it's better to pray na matawag siya sa tanong na alam niya ang sagot.

Her profile was full of her pictures. A lot of selfies, some pictures while she's in some beach. There were also food pictures. Pictures of pets. Ang hilig niya namang magpicture.

"Di na ba uso ang privacy?" Lui said as he snatched his phone away. He looked at what I was looking at. Then he turned his face at me and grinned. "I see..." sabi niya sa akin nang mapansin niya siguro na nakarating na ako a few years ago sa mga posts.

I ignored him and put my earphones back in. I needed to concentrate on studying. I actually needed to put in effort in my studies. I actually thought that I was smart—until I got into law school. Being smart is not enough. You actually have to put in the hard work—but of course, always hard work with a little bit of luck.

Kaya nga ako sumali sa fraternity.

In life, hindi pwede na lagi ka lang masipag. The truth is, you need luck.

Ayoko nun. Nakakatakot kapag umiyak.

"Hindi."

"Bakit mo tinitignan 'yung profile?"

"Curious lang."

"Magagalit si Lord sa 'yo niyan."

I looked at him and gave him a deadpanned look. He knew that I absolutely hated it when he threatens me with the Lord's name. But Lui being Lui, he didn't really give a shit.

"Whatever," he said. "I was just fucking with Rhys. You know he has his undying devotion for Ms. Viste."

"You know, one day, he's just gonna deck you."

"And I'd be the happiest," Lui replied. "You know that one has some serious pent up anger."

"Na galing din sa 'yo."
