Marinette's alarm clock began ringing & she turned it off, stretching her arms & yawning a bit
Marinette: Ugh.. I'm so tired..
She ran her fingers through her hair & looked at the time on her phone
Marinette: I should hurry & get to work.
She climbed out of bed & headed downstairs to the kitchen, opening a bag of toast & taking out a carton of eggs
Just then, her phone began ringing & she answered it
Marinette: Hello?
Nadia: Hello, Marinette. Do you believe you can come in today for the surgery?
Marinette: Oh, sure. Of course.
Nadia: Good. It'll start at 3:00 PM.
Marinette: Okay. Thank you.
Nadia: Have a good rest of your morning.
Marinette: You too, Ms. Chamack.
She hung up the phone & Marinette sighed, placing her hands on the counter
Marinette: (mind) I have healthy kidneys, but will only one be able to save her..?
Just then, Marinette felt a sudden pain in her chest & she gasped, beginning to get a panic attack
Marinette: O-Ow! N-Not now! F-Fuck..
She groaned & slid down to the floor, as Tikki went over to her owner
Marinette: (mind) These panic attacks keep happening.. is it because I'm taking this surgery? Or because I'm afraid of the consequences that Grandma might not make it..?
She stopped holding her chest & inhaled & exhaled throughout her mouth, taking slow deep calming breaths
Marinette: Marinette, don't think like that. Just look to the positive outcome. Grandma will make it, I'm sure of it.
She got back up & began cooking breakfast, but then shifted her gaze towards the photo of her & her family on the table
She picked it up & sighed sadly
Marinette: (mind) Mom & Dad died of cancer when I was ten. Auntie Shu Yin & Uncle Wang left to China not so long ago, so there was no option of going with them. So, I had to continue living with Grandma & Grandpa for the rest of my life until I became 21. I was teased for not having parents, but still, Grandma & Grandpa treated me like I was their own child.
She felt small tears trickling down her eyes & she wiped them away
Marinette: They're the only family I have left. I can't lose them.
She grabbed her meal & placed it on a plate
