She stirred in her sleep and was woken up by the shrill noise of her alarm. She let out a huff and turned it off. It was a new day. A bright new day. Too bright for her actually.
Meerab got up from her bed and moved towards the washroom to freshen up. She had gotten very little sleep the previous night as she was busy preparing for the VERY IMPORTANT presentation she had today. The company was relying on her to seal this deal, and she HAD to do it right without any mistakes. She got out of the washroom, fresh and changed.

Anila was serving breakfast while waqas was reading today's newspaper. He looked up from his paper towards the wall clock and asked his wife, "Anila, has meerab woken up yet? She has a very important presentation today."
"She must've woken up by now but let me check" Anila replied as she moved towards the stairs. But just as she was about to go up she saw meerab coming out of her room.
"Meerab, come quickly. Have breakfast and leave for office, u can't afford to be late today." Anila said as meerab descended down the stairs. "Mama I can't have breakfast right now. I need to leave!" Meerab replied as she hastily moved towards the door to leave. Anila was about to object when waqas said, "Meerab, you can't do a presentation on an empty stomach, eat something." Meerab sighed at her father's stern tone and moved towards the dining table. She quickly picked up two buttered toasts, put one of them in her mouth and quickly walked towards the door to leave. "I'll eat it on my way, take care love u bye." Meerab said quickly and before any of them could object, she left.

She walked in the corridor leading towards the meeting room, greeting everyone she saw on the way. She sighed in relief when she saw that the meeting room was empty meaning the meeting hadn't start yet. She quickly entered and set up her laptop and files in place for her presentation. She was busy setting up when her boss Naurez entered the room. "Ah meerab there u are!" He said as if she were just the person he was looking for. "Nervous, are we?" Naurez asked with a subtle smile. "Well... I did work very hard on this presentation sir so I REALLY hope it works out." Meerab replied.
"Don't worry, it'll work out inshallah." He said as he settled on his chair and continued, "there's a reason I chose YOU for this presentation, you've got great talent!"
Meerab couldn't help but smile. There conversation was interrupted as Naurez' assistant entered the room and announced the arrival of their client. Naurez told her to call them in and wished Meerab good luck.

The meeting and the presentation went well, the clients were very impressed with their company and finalised the deal 95%. "I really hope khan approves of your company, I myself will talk to him in your favour. So don't you worry." Said Zain, Khan enterprise's representative. "Why didn't khan himself come to finalise this deal?" Meerab asked naively to which Naurez gave her a look which she couldn't quite decipher.
Zain chuckled at Meerab's question, clearly knowing that Meerab was unaware about Khan. "Khan has a lot of other more important responsibilities as well, so these business deals are for us to look after. In the end he just approves and signs the deal if he finds the company appropriate." Zain explained as he continued reassuringly , "But don't worry, I'm sure khan'll love your ideas and approve of them." Meerab only nodded in response. She couldn't understand why this 'khan' wasn't doing business deals himself when he was so hell bent on 'approving' them. Yes it was his company but no one should be that lazy to not go to business meetings himself, she knew these 'more important responsibilities' were just a façade to hide his laziness. What other responsibilities could a billionaire businessman possibly have other than making business deals?

Zain left their office quite impressed with their ideas, he shook hands with meerab and Naurez and left. "Well...let's hope khan likes your ideas meerab." Naurez said with a smile. "I really hope so too sir." Meerab replied, returning his smile. Naurez excused himself and left, leaving meerab alone in the meeting room. Meerab sighed and quickly started collecting her stuff. She was picking up her files when she saw a wallet lying on the floor. Meerab picked it up, wondering who it belonged to as she opened it. The ID in the wallet indicated that it belonged to Zain.
She walked towards the exit of her office in quick strides, hoping to catch up with zain before he leaves. As she reached the exit she saw Zain's car leaving their office property and disappearing into the highway. 'Fuck' she cursed under her breath. She turned around to go back inside as she saw Naurez coming towards her or the exit to be more precise. He was leaving for home when he saw Meerab, he looked at her confusingly and asked, "Meerab? Is everything okay? Why are u still here?"
"Zain left his wallet here sir, so I was hoping to catch up with him to return it. But he has left already." Meerab replied.
"Oh, contact their office tomorrow, keep the wallet safe for now." Naurez instructed and continued, "and go home! get some rest." Meerab nodded and went inside to take her stuff.

Zain realised that he left his wallet at MEERAB'S office just as he was about to reach the khan haveli. He decided that he would contact them tomorrow because he couldn't go back now as the Khan had been calling him impatiently asking about the meeting, the details of the meeting or HER to be more precise. Zain reached the khan haveli and walked in quick strides towards Khan's study. He entered the dimly lit study, it smelled like cigarettes in there. Khan was sitting in his majestic chair with its back towards the desk and Zain. Zain could only see khan's hand which held a cigarette, his elbow was rested on the hand rest of the chair exhibiting his authoritative personality. "How did it go?" Khan asked in his normal cold tone, still with his back towards Zain. "It went well Khan, very well actually." Zain replied. "What was SHE like? Did she do good?" Khan asked. Zain chuckled at this, their khan who didn't express any emotions for anyone in his life was now asking about a girl who he merely saw once, that too a year ago. "You could've just gone to the meeting yourself to see that Khan." Zain replied smilingly. Khan turned around in his chair, now facing Zain. His moustache was curled like usually, his hair neatly gelled and his shawl resting on his shoulders. He looked like the mighty KHAN MURTASIM KHAN in all his glory. Only Zain knew what was actually going on in his mind, only he knew of his inner turmoil. Murtasim sighed as he said, "You know I can't do that."
"Why can't you?" Zain asked eagerly as he took his seat opposite Murtasim.
Murtasim shook his head as he replied, "A girl like her would never even LOOK at someone like me."
"You're just making assumptions, have u ever even tried talking to her? Murtasim I know you since we were kids, and I have never seen you like this for ANYONE." Zain said as he tried to reason and continued, "why wouldn't she like you? You have everything, you're extremely wealthy, you are good looking, and....you love her."
Murtasim gave Zain his 'shut the fuck up' look and snapped, "first of all, I DONT LOVE HER. And second I have no interest in talking to ANYONE."
"You have been monitoring her every move since last year and you're telling me that you don't love her?" Zain said in a matter of fact voice and continued, "Sometimes I fear that u know more about her life than she does."
Murtasim scoffed and said, "esa kuch nahi hai, and shut the fuck up about my non existent love life and tell me about the meeting, should we finalise it?"
Zain looked at him in disbelief and shook his head. "Tum toh ese Bol rahe ho as if u didn't send me to that company just because Meerab works there." He said trying to get his friend to confess.
"Apni hadd mai raho Zain, I don't wanna hear another word regarding this. Do the work that I assigned you and stop interfering in my life!" Murtasim said in an eerie tone which sent shivers down Zain's spine. Zain knew better than to push Murtasim khan's buttons, so he stopped talking about Meerab and continued with the details of the meeting and the ideas that were pitched in. Murtasim was quite impressed with the ideas and approved the deal. Zain knew that he would've approved even if the ideas were terrible, afterall they were made by Meerab, they got lucky that Meerab had a good business talent. Murtasim left his study to attend some other important work, leaving Zain to his thoughts.

Meerab stood on her balcony looking up at the sky, thanking the heavens for her successful presentation. She put her AirPods in and walked around the balcony while listening to music oblivious to the fact that she was being watched by 'someone'.
