WINTER BREAK

Mio's POV

"Haruuu..." I groaned as I leaned my head against his shoulder. "Are we there yet?" I ask him for the 100th time since we stepped on this train.

It's Winter break, finally. Haru had asked me to go with him back to Iwatobi and I agreed; since I have nothing to do this holidays. As usual.

"No. Not yet." He answers as he kisses my forehead affectionally. "Is this your first time to Iwatobi?" I nod as I look outside the window. The water in the sea that we have passed by was already frozen from the cold temperatures. Well, it is freezing.

I was wearing a heavy jacket along with a sweater, scarf, and some jeans. I also wore my favorite ear muffs, which was very comfortable if I may say.

Haru placed an earbud on my right ear as he played some music to pass the time. He leans against my shoulder and closes his eyes for a bit, resting them before we arrive at the Iwatobi station.

I play with his hair, twirling some of his locks and petting it afterwards. I hear him grunt in his sleep as he held my hand and stroked it with his thumb.

After 20 minutes or so, we arrive at Iwatobi. Haru was disoriented at first when he woke up, but he was even more surprised with what we have saw infront of us.

A middle aged couple with the sign 'Welcome back Haru and Mio!' The woman and the mad had features I had recognized.

They are Haru's parents.

"Haru!" His mom exclaims as she gives him a tight hug.

"Mom." His mom releases him after a few moments and went to hug me even tighter.

"I'm glad Haru's opening up now! What did you have to do to make him open up?!"

"I did nothing Mrs. Nanase-"

"Please. Call me mom and call Haru's dad well... Dad." She laughs as her husband wraps an arm around his wife.

"Hello Mio-san."

"Hello dad."

"Dad." Haru says as he nudges his head to the car. "Mio's bags are heavy you know."

"Oh hush Haru. Girls have more necessities than men." His mom huffed as she pinches his cheek. After a while we went inside Dad's car and we went to the house Haru used to live in. The house had a Japanese look and yet it looks homey, and a great place to start a family in.

I felt my cheeks turn pink at the thought. I could just imagine it. Haru and I living here, with two of our kids running around. A happy family.

I've always been alone since I was an only child. I was shy, until now. And the only people I can really open up to are friends and family.

"Haru used to live here when he was a child. But when he reached high school he was the only one alone since his Grandmother had passed away." His mom sighed as she opens the door to the house. "Make yourself at home sweetie."

"Ja, come Mio. I'll show you around." Haru first led me to his kitchen, which was very warm and homey. And I noticed he had some kind of indoor grill. Probably for his mackerel. I giggled at the thought. He looks at me with a raised eyebrow before shaking his head and leading me to the living room, where his grandmother's shine was. I paid respects before Haru started to tour me around the house until we reached his bedroom.

"This is my bedroom." There was nothing really off about Haru's bedroom. It's like any usual highschool student would have as a room. We went back down to the living room where his dad was preparing tea.

"Ah, Mio; can you help me out with the cooking?" His mom asks as she peeks at me from the kitchen. I nod with a smile before kissing Haru's cheek and entered to help out his mom.

Haru's POV

My phone rang suddenly as I was sitting outside the house, admiring the stars outside in the sky. I took out my phone, and looked at the caller. It's Rin.

"Rin, what do you want?" I answered.

"Well hi to you as well Haru. Anyway, I have some good news for the both of us." He said.

"What is it?" I smell Mackerel.

"We're going to have an interview for the Olympic team spots. Can you believe it?! It's going to be on January 15. 6:00 PM for you. The interviewer's from the States from the looks of it."

"Oh."

"Yeah. Don't kill him with your horrible english." He says a low chuckle following afterwards. I rolled my eyes at his comment.

"Screw you Rin."

"Ja, I have to go now. Me and Ritsu are playing videogames with her otouto. Ja ne."

"Bye." I hung up on him when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked behind my back to see it was Mio.

"Haru, dinner's ready."

Dinner was awkward for me. Mom was blabbing how I was like when I was a kid, and even showed embarrassing photos to Mio who didn't mind. Mio giggled as mom showed her a photo of me during Middle school.

I was eating when I felt my dad pat my back. I look up at him to see he had a smile.

"Haru, Mio's a beautiful girl." He says. I nod in agreement.

"I know."

"She'd make a beautiful wife."

"Dad." I said quietly, hoping Mio didn't hear that.

"So, Mio. When are you guys planning to get married?" Dad dropped the bombshell. I looked at Mio who turned red before she smiled.

"Depends on Haru actually." She answered.

"Haruka." Dad started to lecture me about that I'm already 21 and I'm not getting any younger. I sighed in annoyance.

"Dad. Just stop."

"I'm sorry for my parents Mio." I apologized to my girlfriend who snuggled up beside me. She smiled as she looked up at me and poked my nose.

"It's alright Haru." She says with a big grin. "I like your family."

"They're annoying." I commented, annoyed. She shook her head.

"Well it's better than my family." She says. Come to think of it, I never knew anything about Mio's family. Only aside from the fact she's an only child.

"Let's go to sleep now. I'll take you sight seeing tomorrow." She nods before nuzzling my chest and slowly falling asleep. I tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear as I softly smiled at the sight that was infront of me.

"Good night Mio."

Mio's POV

I woke up in the middle of the night to drink some water in the kitchen. When I walked inside the Kitchen, Haru's mom was having a cup of coffee. She greeted me with a warm smile before she told me to sit down beside her so that we could talk.

"I'm sorry if Haru can be a bit cold sometimes." She sighs as she stares down at her cup. "Ever since me and his dad started working overseas, he's been more distant." She frowns. "But he's a good boy." She smiles. I smiled back at her before looking at his photo on the bookshelf.

"Yeah. He is."

"Promise me you'll take care of Haru, Mio." She asks. I nod before I heard footsteps coming to the Kitchen.

"Mio, go back to sleep. You too mom. Your flight's in a few hours." Haru says as he rubs his eyes sleepily.

"Hai hai." His mom says before planting a big kiss on Haru's cheek. "Good night my little boy."

"Mom, I'm not a little boy anymore." He says, a bit annoyed.

"You'll always be her little boy Haru." I laughed as his mom chuckles.

"Yeah. Okay."
