Poetry: Forever Summer

Forever summer, on a land that's forever young,
A land that's free, multicultural, a land that's one.
Migrants and Indigenous people living alongside each other
Where everything is fair, and nothing is fought over.

Australia, an island full of animals and nature,
Where leaders and governments care for our kids' future.
A place full of exciting danger and adventure,
Where trees and waterfalls tower over your house in splendour.

Koalas, kangaroos, snakes and spiders,
You share your house and shoes with them, especially during fires.
Cockatoos and kookaburras sing until night,
While you take out your local magpies to have a fight.

If you're from around here, there's nothing to fear,
It's warm and beachy all throughout the year.
It's fun, it's safe, and there's plenty to eat,
Wherever you live there's a pie shop up the street.

Always in your shorts, thongs and sunscreen,
Refresh yourself with Milo from the nearest vending machine.
It's hot when it's hot and it's actually hot when it's cold,
And Aussie's all around, go through life on easy mode.

Take a dive in The Great Barrier Reef,
Embrace other cultures and learn new beliefs.
Aboriginal art is displayed on every public building wall,
And signs are translated into every language you can recall.

Sydney Opera House, Uluru,
Endless stories to learn and places to view.
Flags fly black, yellow, red, and black, white, blue, green,
And red, white, and blue, flying together on every bridge to be seen.

A legend, whose people and land are gold,
With culture rich and old,
Our Southern Cross shines bright on flag and sky,
With land to share, all together, both you and I.

But like a glossy apple rotting on the farmers tree,
Some things in reality aren't as good as we might see.
