Kuru Kingdom,Hastinapura

A month had passed, yet Gandhari and Dhritarashtra remained apart. Gandhari devoted most of her time to caring for her son, Karna, shielding him from the animosity of her in-laws. Despite their disapproval, she fiercely protected him. Meanwhile, Dhritarashtra grew increasingly impatient to consummate their relationship. However, Gandhari was hesitant, her resolve strengthened by her in-laws' hostility towards Karna. She contemplated a drastic decision, but had yet to discuss it with Dhritarashtra, weighing her options  carefully.

Gandhari was relaxing in her chamber, gazing lovingly at her son as he slept peacefully with a sweet smile on his face. Her serene moment was disrupted by the sudden, loud creaking of the door. She turned to see her husband, Dhritarashtra, entering without his usual announcement. Surprised by his uncharacteristic informality, Gandhari rose to her feet, showing her respect.

"Gandhari, didn't Aapti inform you that I was expecting you in my chamber?" Dhritarashtra asked in a serious tone.

"Pardon me, Your Majesty," Gandhari replied, apologetic. "She did inform me, but Karna was unwell, so I'm attending to him. Is there something pressing?"

"I understand your concern for Karna, and I accepted him as my son because of you," Dhritarashtra said, his voice firm. "However, Gandhari, he is not my biological son. I may sound harsh, but this is the truth. Have you considered when we will start our own family? When will you bear me an heir? We must think of our future. With Pandu's upcoming marriage, he may have a son before us. We should secure our legacy by having a child of our own."

Gandhari's eyes dropped, her mind racing with the weight of Dhritarashtra's words. She knew he spoke the truth, but her heart ached at the thought of prioritizing their own child over Karna, whom she had grown to love as her own.

"I understand your concerns, my lord," she said finally, her voice measured. "But Karna is innocent in all this. He deserves our love and protection, regardless of his parentage."

Dhritarashtra's expression turned stern. "Innocent or not, he is not my blood. And with Pandu's marriage, the threat to our throne grows. We must secure our future, Gandhari. I expect you to focus on bearing me a son."

"But, my lord." Gandhari ventured, her voice laced with caution. "I fear it's not the right time to leave Karna. He's still adjusting to our family and the royal customs. He needs me, especially when the nightmares come. He's still so young and vulnerable..."

Dhritarashtra's expression darkened, his patience wearing thin. "Nightmares? What are you talking about, Gandhari? He's a strong boy, he'll adapt. And even if he doesn't, it's not your place to coddle him. Your duty is to me, to our family, and to producing an heir."
