"Hey! I thought we were getting somewhere with the knocking!" Jia scolded playfully, trying her best not to smile as she saw Haechan join her in her office a few minutes after she slipped into the room.
"And I thought we were getting somewhere. Period." Haechan said with dissatisfaction, rolling his eyes and she couldn't help but chuckle at that statement
"Could be better?" He asked, approaching her desk and standing in front of her with his hands on his hips. She sat up and leaned forward on her desk a little bit as she nodded innocently, keeping up the act, loving his reaction to her previous statement.
"How could that be any better?" He questioned further and she smirked
"Well, maybe you can do better later today" She said
"Why don't I just kiss you now and prove you wrong?" he asked, raising a brow
"Because-" before she could continue, a knock was placed on her door and she almost swore she heard Haechan growl at that
"You seriously need a do not disturb sign on that door" He said with a frustrated sigh, walking over to his desk and taking a seat.
"Come in" Jia said, trying her best to wipe the smile of victory off her face as she saw Jeno poke his head in.
"Hey...could I uh...talk to you alone for a second" Jeno asked, noticing Haechan who was sitting at his desk looking at him intently.
"uh...sure" Jia replied, looking towards Haechan who looked at her expectantly.
"...Haechan?" she asked, getting his attention, surprised that he wasn't getting the cue to leave
"Yeah?" he asked
"...It's still my office" She said, raising her brows at his boldness
"oh. ohh yeah...looks like it's time for me to go home then" he said, looking at his watch, even though he still had two hours of a shift left
"No...that's not what I meant-"
"Had a great day at work today, see you tomorrow" Haechan said, grabbing his jacket and keys before rushing out of the room making her scoff.
"What's up Jeno?" She asked with a sigh, shaking her head at Haechan's playfulness
"Did you get a chance to look at the balance sheets? Is there a new signatory?" Jeno asked, a slight sense of irritation in his voice
"Uh...yeah. I added Haechan as one of the signatories" She said and Jeno sighed, nodding his head slowly as he approached her desk and sat down on the chair opposite her
"You don't seem too happy with that" she said, furrowing her brows little as he looked like he had something to say about the decision made, and he smiled a little bit, trying to ease the tension that had started to fill the air.
"Yeah...I mean he's been in the company for what? A month and he's already one of the signatories? He's clearly not even taking the job seriously" Jeno said, scoffing slightly at the importance Haechan held at the workplace even though he was just an intern.
"Well its his family's business-"
"And? That justifies it? Isn't that a little concerning Jia? Like I worked my ass of for five years and not a word about the CFO position" Jeno said bitterly, shaking his head at the luck of the world
"Yeah but...that's clearly different" she said, confused about how bitter he was being, something that Jeno usually doesn't do.
"Its unfair...that's all. Plus you're running this branch, didn't you have a say on holding an intern to such high importance?" Jeno asked, raising an eyebrow at her
"Actually it was...my idea" She said and Jeno scoffed, shaking his head at her statement
"Do you have a problem with that? Are you undermining the way I run the business?" She asked, her voice getting deeper as she didn't like the way he was acting like she had just made the worst decision.
"Jia...that's not what I meant its just...God y-you're clearly only doing all this because his dad owns the company and you want to be the next CEO" Jeno grumbled and she sighed, nodding her head slowly at what she had just heard
"Could you leave if you have nothing further to say?" She asked and Jeno sighed
"Jia that's not what I was trying to say I-"
"Jeno please...I have a lot of work to get to. I don't need to hear someone telling me I'm doing it wrong as well" She said, officially done with this conversation. She was getting a little upset hearing how much protest her decision was getting, sure Jeno had a point in saying it was a pretty big step, but Jia knew damn well she didn't do it just because his family owned the business.
Jeno stood up to his feet and walked towards the office door, opening it but before he could walk out he heard Jia speak to him
"Haechan graduated at the top of his whole year and knows all the board directors on a first name basis, so before you judge him for being a nepo-baby, get all your facts straight first" she said sternly, not taking her eyes off her laptop
"I'm just surprised you're defending him after all the work you had to put in to even get this far... and all for what? Him to be the next CEO?" Jeno scoffed, shaking his head before walking out, closing the door shut behind him and she sighed. Her shoulders slumped as her brain replayed the last few words from Jeno. She couldn't help but worry that he was right, it was almost like she was helping him get better when she was really meant to be praying for his downfall.
