"All of this is Christmas decorations?" Kylo asked incredulously, turning and looking at you as two of you made a clear path to the ladder in the attic so you could start bringing decorations down. It wasn't even December yet, but it was your and Violet's favorite holiday and you'd been decorating earlier and earlier every year, especially once she could participate. As the two of you spoke, you could hear her at the bottom of the ladder talking to Trudgen about her favorite ornaments that were safely wrapped in the admittedly large number of storage bins Kylo now looked at in shock.

You tried and failed to hide a smirk. Maybe it was a little early to start decorating, but you all needed the distraction. Especially Kylo, who you knew was going a little more stir crazy with every passing day. It wasn't that he wasn't grateful to be out of prison. House arrest was far better than risking him being attacked again and being home with you and Violet, but this wasn't forever.

The trial continued to loom on the horizon, and without solid proof that he was being framed, things looked no better than they had weeks ago. Phasma and her team weren't just contending with proving Kylo innocent of Rey's murder, they were trying to prove him innocent of all the fabricated evidence. All while knowing that whoever was out there doing this had just as much time to cause more trouble as you all did to fix it.

Obviously decorating for Christmas wasn't going to solve all your problems, but you figured it would keep everyone distracted for a few hours. No matter what, you were determined to make this holiday as close to perfect as possible.

Not letting yourself dwell on the fact it might be the last one you and Violet could spend with Kylo outside the walls of a prison.

It wouldn't hurt for Jace and Poe, either. You were having them over at the end of the week and you were sure after the non-stop care they'd been giving Poe's parents they could use a distraction. While they were both lucky to be alive, their injuries were severe, and both of them still needed pretty much round the clock care. While they had a nurse checking in throughout the day, Poe had refused to leave his parents sides. Jace told you in a murmured, exhausted conversation a few days ago that he was running himself ragged. None of them missed an opportunity to be grateful that they were both still alive and recovering, it had been a terrifying reminder of the fragility of life.

You'd offered to invite them for dinner so Poe could get a couple of hours away, and he only very reluctantly accepted. You sweetened the deal by telling him you had a whole bin of decorations and cookies for his parents they could put up, maybe lift their spirits a bit, too.

"Actually, I think there's a few more in my closet." You nodded, remembering putting some smaller boxes there after last year.

"Hoarder." He accused, chuckling lowly when you shoved his arm playfully.

"It's not that bad. It's just everything up here and what's in my closet." You paused, remembering that there were also outside decorations out in the shed in the backyard. "And a few things in the shed."
