August 1986, Magical Britain- 12 Grimmauld Place, Arwen
Arwen lay in bed next to her husband, wide awake and staring at the canopy. Her eyes glazed over as she followed different decisions down different mental paths, trying to find a way to stop the madness she saw in her beloved grandniece. It all stems from Delphine's 7th birthday. From what she could see, the various paths branched from that one moment and her inaction that day. Shooting up in bed, panting, she pressed a hand over her heart trying to calm its racing.
"Arwen?" Orion murmured sleepily next to her, a hand gently stroking her thigh.
"It's all my fault. She was right." She broke down into tears, curling into herself.
"That's not true, my love." Orion sat up now fully awake, wrapping his arms around his wife.
"But it is," She sobbed. "If I had handled her outburst better, then she never would have been alone when the magic broke free."
Orion didn't know what to say to that. It was true, but he also could've been a better grandfather. He held Arwen, knowing that anything he said would be false platitudes. What they needed to focus on was making sure that they did the right thing from now on. One of those things started with getting his son and heir out of Azkaban. A plan began to form in his mind as they sat there, holding each other.
"Orion?" Arwen touched his cheek gently, drawing him out of his thoughts.
"Just coming up with a scheme to get Sirius out of Azkaban sooner than expected. I must talk to my reinstated niece Andromeda, and her daughter Nymphadora." He gently kissed her.
A pop came from near the door, and both turned to see one of the house elves. Sorkey bowed, his ears flopping about.
"Pardon the interruption, Master and Mistress."
"It's alright Sorkey, what is it?" Arwen grabbed her robe, wrapping it around herself as Orion did the same.
"There be visitors in the dining room ma'am. Sorkey was asked to tell you that your sister and brother-in-law are here to discuss last night." Sorkey smiled at them before popping away back to the kitchens.
Orion tied his robe around his lithe form, circling the bed and standing before his wife.
"I'll send an owl to Severus and ask that he and Narcissa join us so we can have all the information."
"They are already coming over. I expect they will be joining us after seeing the children off to the Burrow." Magic swirled in Arwen's eyes as this new deviation gave her hope. She gripped his forearm, trying to follow the new path but it was too new. Not enough had happened that she could follow its threads very far.
"What is it? What did you see?" He was used to her 'random' pauses of thought.
"Hope." Arwen smiled, as she could see a specter of Delphine standing in their doorway, wearing Hogwarts robes in shades of black and green. Her grandniece was smiling and waved for them to follow her. Perhaps, the changes they were making were the first steps of a new path for Delphine and Harry to follow.
They left their bedroom and headed downstairs to join Minerva and Gavin in the dining room. Food was offered and accepted as silence hung over the four of them. Their breakfast was interrupted by a pop and all turned to see one of the house elves, Tipsy, who curtsied and adjusted one of the bows on her ears before speaking.
"Master, there be more visitors arriving."
"Who is it Tipsy?" Orion guessed as to who it was, but it never hurt to be cautious.
