"Professor!"

Ignoring the plea, Severus continued to stride forward, dragging Draco Malfoy along by his collar.

"Detention, Mr. Malfoy. It's well beyond curfew, and your nocturnal wanderings do not reflect well on Slytherin," Severus hissed without sparing a glance at the bewildered young boy.

Draco was perplexed. He had frequently roamed past curfew before, and Severus had never reprimanded him for it. Why choose today to enforce the rules?

Severus pulled Draco into an unoccupied classroom and commanded, "Clean up this mess, and ensure it's spotless. I won't tolerate any trace of disorder."

Inside the room, a table was laden with filthy cauldrons.

Draco frowned and protested, "But Professor, I have Quidditch practice early in the morning  tomorrow."

Severus arched an eyebrow. "Is that my problem, Mr. Malfoy? And no spells are allowed."

With those words, Severus exited the room, leaving Draco alone amidst the cluttered class.

Draco sighed heavily before reluctantly moving toward completing his tasks. He muttered discontentedly while working, expressing his belief that such duties were meant for servants or individuals like Harry Potter and his insufferable friends.

Unwilling to admit it, Draco felt a twinge of fear at the thought of being alone. Glancing outside the door, he was met with a hallway enveloped in darkness.

Draco had a fear of the dark, a lingering phobia from his childhood. His father used to lock him in a small, dark room as punishment for his misdeeds, instilling a lasting dread of darkness in him.

Draco completed the task, taking some time but ensuring everything was done perfectly, as expected of a Malfoy. The burden of perfection weighed heavily on him, even at his young age.

Gulping nervously, he approached the door, realizing he had forgotten his wand in his dorm. He cursed himself for the oversight. Did Severus really just leave him alone in this here? Normally, there should be professors patrolling the hallways at this hour.

He waited anxiously, expecting someone to appear, but the hallway remained empty.

The hallway plunged into complete darkness, and Draco observed the absence of the usual lit lamps and candles. Why did everything have to go wrong for him tonight of all nights?

Gritting his teeth, he hurriedly made his way toward his dorm, walking fast with his eyes tightly shut. Despite his brisk pace, the journey felt endless, and the absence of professors heightened his unease.

Draco, now scared to the core, trembled uncontrollably, his legs giving way beneath him. Unable to stand, he covered his face with his knees, releasing a stifled sniffle.

Suddenly, he felt the comforting embrace of someone hugging him. Initially ready to yell, Draco hesitated as the person cradled his head against their chest.

A familiar fragrance wafted into Draco's nostrils, and he couldn't help but release a sob, dropping his guard instantly. It was Rosabelle's perfume.

"You were always afraid of the dark, Draco," Rosabelle said with a gentle smile as she embraced the trembling boy, her hand tenderly caressing his hair.

Draco looked up, his eyes watering and his lips quivering. "Professor... I'm scared."

This vulnerable side of Draco was a facet only revealed to Rosabelle and Narcissa. No one else had witnessed Draco shedding tears, aside from these two women. Draco had a reputation to uphold, but Lucius Malfoy often forgot that his son was still a child, or perhaps he simply didn't care.

"I know."

"And Professor Snape was bullying me for no reason..."

"I know."

Although Rosabelle understood that Severus orchestrated this without informing her, he merely requested her assistance with the patrol. Rosabelle realized he was plotting something; Severus never asked her to cover his patrols.

Severus, of course, was aware of Draco's fear of the dark. They practically watched Draco grow up, after all. Most importantly, Rosabelle knew Severus was hiding and waiting behind one of these walls, silently observing the boy. He wouldn't simply abandon the boy when he was well aware of Draco's fear of the dark. She knew Severus wouldn't admit it, but he was attempting to fix Draco's problem. Severus took matters into his own hands, seeing that the boy took so long to apologize to his wife.

Draco continued to ramble through his sobs, and Rosabelle remained silent, attentively listening. He even recounted the events of his weeks, expressing how Harry Potter had been even more annoying recently.

"And... and... I'm sorry, Professor. For hurting you," Draco whispered the last sentence, fearing Rosabelle's reaction.

Rosabelle chuckled. "Oh, honey, I'm not upset with you at all. I know it wasn't your intention. But, you must remember that talking big like that can only lead to problems. What if it had been one of your classmates getting hurt instead of me?"

Draco bit his lip and silently nodded, acknowledging his mistakes.

"I've missed you, Professor."

Rosabelle could feel herself getting emotional.

"I've missed you too, Draco."

Rosabelle was sure to have a talk with Severus after this.
