A great relief washed over Lucius as he gazed at the beautiful black wings spread in the sky.

Dorian was here. It would all be ok.

Dorian dashed toward Lucius but had to halt halfway.

The silver blade was pressed against Lucius's throat. The material was not silver but something much more caustic and biting. It burned his skin like acid.

However, something else caught Lucius's attention amidst the pain.

The scent of the Knight holding the murderous sword...It smelled familiar.

He couldn't put his finger on it when he smelled it at the moment. But in a day, he would find that memory in one of the dark corners of his mind that he didn't want to remember.

He smelled it next to a swimming pool when he was forced to beg for a vampire to bite him, even though he didn't want to. He was a human then and had been married to the Crown Prince of Eternia for less than a year.

Dorian landed ten steps away from Lucius and the Knights. The golden power still radiating all over him. He glowered at the Knights warningly, "Harm him, and I will crush you all."

He said in such a composed, unflappable way as if it was not a threat, but a statement of fact.

As he was speaking, more soldiers showed up. Lucius's eyes widened as Duke Darius appeared by Dorian's side.

How was that possible? He was so sure that The Master was Darius.

Was he wrong?

Lucius heard a tiny chuckle from the Knight behind him as if he found it amusing. The Master, on the other hand, took the situation much more seriously, "King Dorian, it is a pleasure to finally meet you in person. Rest assured, I have no intention to make The Order the enemy of Your Majesty."

"Said the one who assassinated me twice." Dorian replied acerbicly, "Let him go, now!"

"I understand it is hard to accept that someone you care deeply is going to endanger everything else you've sworn to protect, no matter how many red flags and evidence are lying right in front of you." The Master gestured at the six neophyte scions' bodies, "The Royal Consort has been secretly making scions, spreading Asmodian's blood rapidly, disregarding the law and our traditions. Is Your Majesty planning to cover up for the Royal Consort again, as you covered for him when he murdered Prince Zephyr?"

The Master's words gave rise to a salvo of murmuring among the guards and soldiers. But Dorian was unfazed, "You are the one who murdered Prince Zephyr. Your target was Lucius and me, but Prince Zephyr was in the wrong place at the wrong time."

"And why was he at the place at such an unlikely hour?"The Master pressed on, "I'll admit I sent members from The Circle, but not to assassinate you. We only wished to rescue you. Our conduit, who was Prince Zephyr's maid, informed us that you would meet with Prince Zephyr in the arboretum in the morning. However, when my people arrived, they didn't see you, but only Prince Zephyr's remains and another Prince Zephyr, who burned one of the conduits I sent to death. How many shapeshifters were in Queen Kali's court at the time?"

"Lucius was with me that morning." Dorian proclaimed adamantly, "And I've had enough of your lies. Release Lucius, and I will consider to show you and your cult members mercy."

"I will release the Royal Consort unscathed. Moreover, I will willingly surrender myself to you, My King." The Master bowed his head elegantly, "On the condition that you give me five more minutes."

"Don't listen to him Dorian!" Lucius shouted.

Dorian's eyes fixed on the blade that pressed tight on Lucius's neck, and he knew even if he could get to all of them, he wouldn't be fast enough to stop the sword from cutting off Lucius's head. Though Lucius was an apostle, the sword was emitting a strong Elder power. Six piles of ashes on the ground behind them were also sufficient evidence of the sword's power. Dorian didn't want to take any chance.
