Jude's POV:

I continued walking and Kevin ran up to me matching my pace. Without breaking stride or glancing at him, I asked with a hint of exasperation. “What help?”

Kevin’s response was immediate. He abruptly stepped in front of me, blocking my path with a wide grin plastered on his face. "Save me."

I blinked, momentarily thrown off by the request. “Save you?” My brows furrowed in confusion.

Kevin, asking for help? It didn’t make sense. Bullies were now getting scared of others? The thought was almost laughable.

“Save you from whom?”

Kevin opened his mouth but then his gaze shifted over my shoulder and whatever words he had been about to say died on his lips. His usually confident expression morphed into one of slight panic which made me curious about what the fuck he saw.

I turned around to see what had silenced him and my eyes widened in surprise as I spotted a furious Alex charging toward us with Jules trailing closely behind him. Before I could process what was happening, Kevin darted behind me clutching my shoulders and using me as a human shield.

“Save me, J,” he pleaded with desperation, trying to hide from Alex’s wrath.

I’m literally 5'3", dude—where are you even trying to hide with your giant body?

The sudden jolt from his grip made me gasp and almost losing my balance. Alex skidded to a halt directly in front of me, his eyes locked onto Kevin as he made a futile attempt to reach around me, his hand swiping through the air as he tried to grab Kevin from the side. But Kevin skillfully maneuvered himself further behind me, tightening his grip on my shoulders as if his life depended on it.

My muscles tensed from the unexpected pressure and I could feel Kevin's shaky breath against my back.

“Alex, stop!” Jules intervened just in time, quickly grabbing Alex’s arm as she stepped between us when she saw me struggling to keep myself between the two grown up towering figures.

Grown up men, indeed. They were more like oversized kids—bad ones at that. I couldn’t help but sigh inwardly wondering how I always ended up caught in the middle of their ridiculous play.

Alex huffed, folding his arms across his chest and glaring at Kevin. "How cowardly of you to use Jude as a cover. Come out right now."

I looked back at Kevin who stood up straight and coughed. "I am not a coward, okay? It's just J. and I was playing."

I blinked in confusion as Kevin gave me a thumbs up. Is he crazy or something? Who was playing with who?

"You stupid man, leave J. right there." Jules pulled at my sleeves causing me to stumble towards her.
