A spell of bad weather had struck so there weren't any Quidditch lessons for me to organize that month. Professor Dumbledore told me I could take some time off and visit my family if I wanted to. He also knew Remus and Tonks' wedding was coming up, so he mentioned that I could take a leave and attend the event.
That was very generous of him and I thanked him for the consideration. I had yet to decide whether or not to take a leave but when I received a letter from Percy telling me that he had something important to discuss, I eventually gave in.
It seemed he had found out about the Everharts like I asked him to. It was confidential and I couldn't possibly discuss everything with him at Hogsmeade or the Leaky Cauldron. So it would be better for me to take that leave and go to his apartment.
Therefore, I let the Headmaster know that I would take a week's leave as Rem and Tonks' wedding was on the weekend. I had to return to Hogwarts after that.
So I packed my bags and told Ginny I would go home for a week.
I was welcomed very warmly at the Burrow like always. Mum was delighted to see me and so were Fred and George. I waited till evening then told them I had dinner plans with Percy so after convincing the twins that I was not fighting again with our Headboy brother, I finally left to go to Perce's apartment in London.
I knew he would have returned from his job at the Ministry by then so I rang the doorbell, waiting for him to open up. A short while later, the door shifted, revealing Percy in his hand-knit cardigan and thick spectacles.
"Straight up showed to my door without warning?" He smiled, stepping aside to let me in, "I had almost forgotten how persistent you can be when it comes to getting something done."
"Well, I just had to remind you so that you don't forget about me too soon," I remarked, watching him close the door and secure it from any intruders, "How are you though?"
"The usual, swamped in work at the Ministry and very tired," he replied, going to the kitchen while I followed behind him, "Tea or coffee?"
"Whichever's easiest. No wait, you sit down, I will brew tea for both of us."
He didn't object to the offer so I fetched the cups from the cabinet as well as the kettle to make tea for us. In the meanwhile, he had brought over his briefcase that I assumed contained information on the Everharts.
"Kat, how much do you trust me?" He asked all of a sudden and I paused, not expecting that question.
However, the reply was ready on my tongue, "Enough to know that you will always be here for me."
"Good. Because finding all of this wasn't easy and I've put myself in trouble for you," he remarked and though it may seem he was emphasizing how effortful that task had been for him, I caught the solemn look in his eyes, hinting there was more to it than what met the eye. "I also have a lot of questions about everything and I will need answers from you."
"Of course, I will try and answer all that I know."
"Promise me," his hazel eyes were focused in an unwavering look, "Because last time when you told me about your visions, you didn't tell me everything."
Oh, dear... He caught onto it, probably. That means I would have to tell him about the Malfoys and all I know about the link between them and myself so far.
"I promise," I agreed, mixing the sugar in our cups as I poured the tea, "I will tell you everything but you also have to swear that it will remain our secret. You won't say a word to anyone else."
"I swear I won't tell it to anyone else."
I took my seat across from him and watched him open the bag at last. He took out a file from it which was the official record file on the Everhart bloodline.
