“I still can't believe you took him to the cabin…” Alaric shook his head with a sly smirk tugging at his lips as he took a sip of his mango smoothie.

It's currently 2:30 in the morning. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't sleep so I decided it would be a good time to have that talk with alaric.

He wasn't too happy to be woken from whatever dream he was having, but perked up as soon as he saw it was me. It was his idea for us to go get smoothies and sit on the swings of the park close to the house. He got a smoothie, while I got a cup of hot chai tea.

I thought about inviting Cassandra on our adventure, but ultimately decided against it since I'm still a bit upset with her.

“Honestly, I don't know why I did.” I sighed, rubbing the scar on the bridge of my nose after setting my now empty cup on the ground.

It’s slightly foggy outside so it almost looks like we're in a horror movie. The only source of light we have right now is a street lamp that flickers on and off every once in a while. Everytime the light would turn off, Alaric would jump and let out a small curse thinking I wouldn't hear.

I sometimes forget how much of a scardy cat he is. Mostly because he's a well built, 6-foot-something man. Don't judge a book by its cover I guess.

“Do you regret it?” he asked after a minute, setting his drink on the wood chip covered ground. The swing creaked in the process, creating a haunting melody that made him flinch. I wonder how many kids get splinters from falling on this stuff.

“I don't know.” I furrowed my eyebrows, clasping my hands around the rusting metal chains as I leaned back to look up at the sky, “I don't think I do… and that concerns me.”

From the corner of my eye I could see Alaric turn towards me with furrowed brows as he ran a hand through his wavy light brown locks. the chains of the swing clinked as they twisted together.

“Why?”

“You know why, Alaric.” I sighed, closing my eyes as I felt the gentle early morning breeze kiss my cheeks.

A drop of water landed on my chin and when I opened my eyes I could faintly hear the rumbling of thunder in the distance, the moon covered in a blanket of dark clouds.

“We should head home.”

“Just a second, Allycat.” The sound of his voice calling out to me softly halted my movements of getting off the swing.

I turned my body to look at him, making the chains jingle a bit in the process. Alaric swallowed thickly, taking a few deep breaths as he held onto the rusty chains of his swing tightly. If he squeezed any harder the rust might imbed itself to his skin.

I wonder if he's up to date on his tetanus shots.

“I just want to say that I'm sorry for the way that I acted yester- well I guess Tuesday now considering it's Thursday.” He let out a nervous chuckle as he stood up from the swing. It continued to lightly squeak as it swung back and forth while he kneeled in front of me so we could be at eye level.
