Chapter 67
"Don't you want to be alive before you die?"
*flashback continues*
(please, if you don't remember what happened in the last flashback, read it again)
Her throat tightened a little more and she couldn't help but direct her gaze to him. Her cheek gently touched the blades of grass.
"Hm, I guess I overdid it a bit, huh?" He grinned.
"No, not at all. By the way, that was nice to hear from you. Even if it sounds a little weird coming from you." She said with a smirk on her lips, watching the corners of his lips gently curl into a smirk.
He took a deep breath and said, "Weird, huh?"
"Hey, I didn't mean it badly, I'm just not used to hearing things from you without a sarcastic or cynical tone."
"How do you know I really meant it?" He said with a smile on his lips, testing her resolve with his question.
She hesitated for a moment, looking into his brown eyes she began to fumble through her vocabulary, searching for the right words to use to answer.
"I'm not sure about that, but I still believe you. Moreover, you are drunk and you yourself told me before that drunk people do things they secretly desire and say what they are afraid to say out loud."
Chishiya laughed softly and looked up ahead at the dark sky dotted with shining stars.
"It's getting annoying." He said suddenly. Aina furrowed her brows.
"Do you think about me?"
"No," he said, turning back to her, his small smirk never leaving his lips, "it's getting annoying how you use my words against me."
She giggled and slowly turned again and again towards the sky saying, "I realize now that if it wasn't for all of this, we might never have actually met."
"Everything has its benefits." He smiled, not knowing that he was making her shy with his words. So shy.
"So, you're admitting that this was one of the benefits." She spoke with a smirk on her lips as she waited for his answer with a blush on her cheeks.
"Yeah." It came from his lips after a while, which encouraged Aina's heart to start beating a little faster. She suddenly noticed how the little smile was still shining on his face. At that very moment, she was glad that she was lying on the ground. At least he couldn't see how her legs tap every time he smiles.
"Besides, I feel a little better here than back home." He spoke again, but his voice was a little quieter than a moment ago. She knew what he was getting at, but she didn't think their conversation would suddenly take this direction.
"If you saw someone who felt the same way you once felt when you were a kid, what would you say to them?" She dared to ask, looking at his face.
She watched as he turned slightly in her direction so that he could see her. The right corner of his lips lifted and he said, "Why are you asking me such a strange question?"
"And why not? Don't be scared and just answer me."
He hesitated. He hesitated for a long moment. He took a deep breath and finally she heard him say, "I would say, it gets easier to live with it than to pretend it doesn't exist."
