Sirius lounged in the hot sun, feeling more relaxed than he had in a while. He watched James swim in the lake, occasionally splashing Lily who was reading on the shore.
"Reading," he murmured lazily. "Couldn't pay me enough galleons to read another word yet she's reading a damn book."
Remus, who was sitting against a tree near Sirius, casually reminds him, "Don't say 'damn,' say 'dang' or 'darn'." This is not the first time Remus had to scold him for cursing.
Not even lifting his head to reply, "Damn."
Remus sighs in a mixture and exasperation and resignation.
A high shriek startles both boys.
James had apparently gotten bored in the water by himself so he had levitated Lily to join him. She now appeared to be yelling at him for getting her book wet. He rolled his eyes before tackling her and she went down screaming.
"Hey, guys," Peter said coming up behind them.
"Hi," Remus greeted while Sirius just nodded.
Sitting next to Remus under the tree, Peter glanced the lake and said offhanded, "James pull her in again?"
"Yup," Sirius shifted into a more comfortable position.
Remus turned to face Peter, "How did your exams go?"
He sighed, "Let's just say I'm glad they're over."
Sirius muttered in agreement.
"Tell me about it," James walked up to them, soaking wet. His expression was pouty, contrary to Lily's triumphant smile as she following him.
Sirius propped his elbows up, "Nice hair, mate."
"Oh, shut up." Everyone knew about James's dedication to his hair. Although, it was also common knowledge that Sirius was equally, if not more, obsessed with his.
"So, how'd exams go for you," Remus resumed the previous conversation, his question directed to Lily.
She ran her hands through her hair, shaking out the water and she pondered. James looked almost transfixed as the afternoon light made her hair appear as though engulfed in vibrant flames.
She flipped her twice before clapping her palm to her forehead.
"Duh, I'm a witch," Lily shook her head. "Exaresco," she tapped her hair and the water evaporated leaving it soft and bouncy.
James was practically drooling.
She performed the spell on her sopping robes as well before turning to James and repeating the process without hesitation.
"Guess her charm's exam went alright," Sirius laughed softly.
"Actually," Lily whipped her head to him. "It didn't."
The glare in her emerald eyes were so startling angry, it made Peter squeak in fear.
"Someone jinxed by hairbrush to turn my hair green!" Her eyes narrowed in the direction of her primary suspect.
Sirius visibly gulped.
"Then, because of course this happened on the last day of exams, I was late fixing my neon green hair!"
Behind her back, James's eyes widened and he hastily attempted to look as innocent as possible. He was the one who suggested green.
Lily was now on a roll. It was shocking how easily she went from angry at James to happy with James to furious at Sirius.
