“They aren’t coming out.” Takt’s concerned voice echoed in the silence of the alley he had concealed himself in along with Daria.

“They aren’t.” Daria affirmed.

It has been 5 days since war broke out and the forces of Ingracia still hadn’t emerged to confront the problem running around in their backyard.

“Do you think they caught on?” Takt looked at the looming castle in the distance, thoughts of worst case scenarios swimming through his head.

“That’s unlikely, they’re most likely acting in terms of how we normally operate. They must have a very capable leader.” Daria seemed entirely calm, she seemed to have absolute confidence.

“Yeah, it would take someone really good to keep soldiers in check in a situation like this. You seem awfully calm despite all this though.” Takt looked behind him, taking in the still, shadow draped visage of his companion.

“Is there a reason not to?” It wasn’t the answer he wanted, but it was still an answer he couldn’t argue with.

“I suppose not.” He sighed in response.

“Seeing as we have a backup in Rimuru Tempest, I believe even if we fail our mission will be completed.” She continued in an unwavering tone, much to Takt’s surprise.

His voice went lower, a tinge of uncertainty lingering in it. “You really think he’ll do that for us?”

Daria scoffed. “Of course not.”

This response made no sense to Takt.

“Then what..?”

“Him finishing our mission doesn’t equate to him doing it for us. Are you telling me you can’t see it..? That person’s selfishness.”

Takt thought about it. “I suppose you’re right.”

“Rimuru-sama isn’t a bad person, but he’s someone that will do what he wants regardless of how it affects those around him. That nature will make the success of our mission an inevitability.”

Takt could understand, this comprehension made him ask a single question.

“If so, then why do we still have to put our lives on the line for this?”

Immediately those words left his mouth he could feel an aura of pure malice being directed at him.

“I’m sorry, that was a stupid question to ask,” He apologized sincerely.

“But you’ve always known this, Daria. My resolve is not as pure and strong as yours.” He continued.

“I’m aware.” Daria replied.

“Daria…I don’t want to die..” Confronted with the reality that they were nearing the end, Takt made no attempt to hide his true sentiments.

Daria released a deep breath, she understood this person named Takt. Even if he said he did not want to die, he would still die for the cause if the situation demanded it.

It was because of this that she was fine with him being their leader.

“I’m aware….you won’t have to.”

“You don’t know that.” Takt challenged.

“I do.” Daria answered back with such confidence that it scared Takt a little.

‘Takt, you certainly will not die. I’ll make sure of it.’

“Okay then, we’ve waited enough. Let’s storm the place.” Tired of sitting around, Takt made up his mind. They would attack now.
