I climbed out the window and landed on my feet.

Ow.

It was a bit of a far fall but it's fine.

I hurried out of the drive way and walked to the park.

This is such a bad idea.

It's 7 but I told everyone I was off to bed.

Finally I found the park and walked around.

Where is he?

"Hey!" I looked over my shoulder and found King with his hoodie's hood up and sweat pants.

He looks good.

Stop it!

"Hey." I said and he smiled.

"Come on. Let's go to the playground."

We climbed up the small kids rock wall and slides before we made it to a flat area.

"What's in the bag?" I asked curiously.

He pulled his backpack into his lap and unzipped it.

"I hope it's still warm."

He pulled out a container of food.

"Tada! Shrimp scampi! I also brought us sodas and homemade garlic bread!"

I stared in awe.

"King! You shouldn't have!"

"I didn't eat dinner to eat with you." He handed me a fork.

We began to eat and talk about this and that. It was really good food.

"So, I found a book with you in it in the restricted section of the library." I sipped on some soda.

"Oh yeah? What did you find?" He asked before taking a mouthful of food.

"You beat Ezra a lot. You always came in first place and he'd come in second."

"Oh, yeah! He was a big baby about it too!"

He went on to tell me stories and we finished the food.

"Thank you King. That was delicious."

"I'm glad you enjoyed it." He kissed the top of my head and I blushed.

Be pulled out a cat plushy holding a stuffed rose and handed it to me.

"Happy Valentine's Day, Vera."

I went red.

"Thank you. I didn't get you anything though."

"You being here with me was enough of a gift and I'm eternally grateful to you for it." He stood up and bowed.

I couldn't help but laugh.

"Okay."

"Ah. I'm sorry to break our hang out early but I have to go."

"Wait what?"

"You'll see."

He turned and ran away.

I watched him disappear into the trees and I suddenly felt very alone.

I looked down at the cat and smiled.

Suddenly there was a presence behind me and I froze.

Shoot.

I slowly turned around and saw Ezra staring down at me.

I turned white.

Did he see?

"I hate cats." He said.

"Huh?"

"I hate cats. Who was that anyways?" He asked.

"Oh. No one?"

"It was definitely someone. You have a boyfriend?"

"No! He's not my boyfriend. Just a friend."

"Good." He said as we walked down the playground steps.

"Good?" I asked confused.

He looked up at the stars.

I looked up too. They're very pretty.

I love stars and the night sky.

I looked away and saw Ezra. He was staring at me.

Huh?

Suddenly his hands were on my cheeks and his lips were on mine.

HUH!?

I stood there for a second confused and shocked.

Then I pushed him away.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

He opened his mouth but before he could speak, King appeared behind him and swung his backpack at Ezra's head.

Then he was gone.

"What the?" Ezra turned and looked around.

I stared in shock.

"What was that?" Ezra asked.

"What was what?" I asked sweating nervously. "We should get going."

"Okay..."

We walked home in silence.

Thoughts were racing around my head.

"I thought you said you're not looking for a relationship."

"Not with that girl I'm not."

"Oh uh.." I said. "That's cool I guess?"
