You're so vulnerable to raindrops you shy away.
Now I have to dry myself with this petrichor wet dirt
And walk you home in that ragged raincoat.
Once you purposefully walk past the threshold
And let go of my warm-blooded human-mold,
I'll make sure to flee to the cavities of my mind
And roam to and fro singing, 'Auld Lang Syne'.
My tongue would sputter out things I should've said:
It ends and starts with you, inevitably forever,
And you're my veins keeping the heart alive
In this God-forsaken land of the ever-damned
Teeming with reticent souls leaving ships unmanned.
And I, for once, am lost and found in the curse of love;
This downtrodden lot lives a life far too rough.
You go and be the bright man you've always been.
I will stay here reflecting upon yesterday's flood
Dooming a town so derelict it becomes my blood.
And as far as the light burns in the dark sky above,
And while the aging Earth to herself is still so tough,
I unto you and you unto me, with bated breath, I say,
'These words I utter is the tamest way to betray.'
