Chapter Six: White Lies

Around a month later Aria finds herself standing in front of her floor length mirror, she's carefully putting on the base of her make-up when her phone vibrates on her bedside table. She lifts it up and looks at the new text

From; Luke

I can't wait to see you tonight

Aria smiles as she throws her phone down onto her bed and continues putting on her make-up. Her bedroom door knocks and she sets her foundation down before picking up her concealer

"Come in," Aria murmurs, she watches in her mirror as Amanda strolls into her bedroom, she's fixing her earring and she grins at Aria

"You look lovely," She says and Aria scrunches her eyebrows

"I'm just doing my make-up." Her grin falters and she comes further into Aria's room

"But still, you look lovely anyway." Aria smiles politely at her, her phone buzzes again and she can see Amanda's eyes falling to look at it so she quickly picks it up and discards of the notification from Luke's text. "You're blushing..." Amanda tells Aria which makes her blush even more

"No I'm not." Aria snaps and Amanda raises a perfectly waxed eyebrow

"Yeah you are... so come on, who is it?" She asks and Aria sets her phone down

"It's no one, anyway, is there a reason you're in my room or are you just here to snoop? Did dad send you in?" Aria asks quickly and Amanda shakes her head

"No, no of course not! I was just coming in to make sure you were okay, you know, about me coming along to the band dinner."

"Amanda, you've been to two dinners... it's a bit late asking if I'm okay with it..." Aria trials off before turning around to apply her concealer

"I know but you've been off with me recently," She says and Aria almost laughs at her trying to sound like a concerned mother, she didn't have a maternal bone in her body.

"Don't take it personally, I'm a teenager, it's what we do. You were one once," Aria says "Like thirty years ago."

"Pardon?" Aria grins again in the mirror

"Nothing."

Amanda looks slightly confused but she smiles at Aria anyway and walks to her door

"Tell your father we talked, won't you?" She questions before leaving. Aria rolls her eyes and continues getting ready.

When Ashton, Amanda and Aria arrive at the restaurant Calum and his wife Jess are already seated along with Luke so Aria quickly rushes to take the seat next to him.

"Aria, how you doing?" Calum asks and Aria smiles brightly

"I'm good, so hungry!" She laughs and Jess laughs along with her

"Tell me about it, it took him forever to get ready!" She exclaims looking at Calum

"In my defence..." He trails off

"You have no excuse." Jess giggles and places her hand on his arm.

Luke quickly turns to face Aria, taking Calum and Jess' conversation as them no longer paying attention.

"You look very nice tonight." He tells her quietly and she smirks

"I know."

Luke raises his eyebrow and bites his lip gently. Both Luke and Aria slip their hands under the table and Aria slowly slips her left hand over so it rests on Luke's thigh and he reaches over and squeezes hers in response.
