Ice blue eyes

I woke up early, since I had to be an hour earlier today. I quickly ate my breakfast, grabbed my bag and walked to the corridor to put my sneakers on.
"Enjoy your detention day, my criminal daughter." My dad teased me before I went out.
I walked inside the detention room. Patrick was already there with the biggest smile he could give me. I took a look around and saw a spot that was free and far from him. I sat on it and supported my head with my hands so I won't hit it on the desk, because I was still sleepy.
The coach looked at his clock as if he was waiting for someone else to come. He made a disappointing face and took a deep breath.
I opened a book and started reading. I could feel that Patrick's eyes were on me. What was going on with him? He had a girlfriend, for the love of God!
In few moments the door opened loudly and a boy entered. He was around the height of Patrick's. He had dirty blond hair and ice blue eyes. And I dare to say he was handsome. Our eyes met and he gave me a wink, before he sat down to the only free spot left.
For the rest of the detention I felt both guys staring at my back, while reading my book. When we were free to leave I put the book back to my bag and walked outside. I shared an exchange of gaze with the handsome guy on my way out.
Patrick and I decided to start from the school's stadium. In few minutes the guy sat on the tribunes and watched me. He lighted up a cigarette and messed his hair a little bit. In a bit he got up and walked to me. Patrick noticed that I was staring and decided to draw my attention to him.
"Emma..." He started but was cut off.
"So that's your name." He said when he got close enough.
He had a sparkle in the eye, but I wasn't sure if it was a light from an angel or he was a devil from deep inside. He surely looked like one of the heartbreakers from the movies.
"You're beautiful, you know that?"So straight and simple. I was shocked for a second and then I felt my cheeks heat up.
No! Emma, no! He will be your next disappointment.
"You say that, but it could be a lie." I said to him showing that I was not awed by him.
He opened his mouth and smoke escaped out of it. His almond shaped blue eyes were making me hold my breath. He threw his cigarette away and took a step closer to me, almost not leaving a space between us.
"Why would I?" He reached with his hand to caress my cheek but Patrick quickly grabbed it and pushed him away.
"Stay away from her!" He said in a serious tone as he pointed at his face with an index finger.
Wow. I looked at Patrick wide eyed and then at the guy.
"Relax, Verona. I just wanted to show her I really meant what I said." His eyes moved from Patrick's back to mine.
"Why haven't I seen you before, pretty face?" He smiled at me, not caring if Patrick was there. He noticed my confused expression. I was debating with myself. I may be mad at Patrick, but I knew that he wouldn't act like that out of nowhere.
"I don't bite, petal." He was giving me names every time he spoke to me.
"I moved here this year." I explained to him.
"Thank you." I blinked few times from what he said.
"For what?"
"You just gave me a reason to stick around at school." He was so frank. I found it somehow sexy. He gave me a wink and walked away.
"Emma, listen to me. You don't want to mess with that guy." Patrick grabbed my shoulders turning me to face him.
"Why?"
"He's nothing good. He will rise up your hopes and then pretend nothing happened." Funny, it's like he just described his self. I pulled away and looked at him coldly.
"Since when do you care? You did the same thing! You lifted me up to heaven and then dropped me down the line!" I put my hand to my mouth not believing what I just screamed in his face and turned my back to him.
"Emma..."
"Save it. Let's start cleaning. I don't want to stay here until midnight." I harshly said and walked away.
We cleaned everything except the bathrooms. The time has come to remove all the evidences of girls feelings towards boys, hearths and of course the most "beautiful" words in our language. When we were fully done, we walked out the building. It was already dark and I was tired from all the cleaning.
"Do you want me to give you a ride?" He said dully.
"Okay."
We drove in silence. He stopped in front of my house and looked at me. We stared at each other for a while.
"Thank you." I whispered. Why was I feeling so weak when he was around me. And the goof smile appeared on his face making it harder for me not to reply with one too.
"I missed seeing your smile." Was he making it easier?
"Well... goodnight." I said and walked out the car before it could get awkward.
