"I see why this is on your playlist," you teased Hawks as the credits rolled on Rush Hour. Fantasy by Mariah Carey was playing, and he was mimicking the little girl who sang it in the villains car. You slapped his arm, playfully letting a laugh slip out.
"It was fun though," he pressed, giving your shoulder a small bump with his. "Thanks for inviting me over, Y/N." A quick kiss pressed to your cheek. Your skin warmed in response, still not use to his affectionate touch.
The two of you let the credits roll, the soundtrack playing. It was closer to eight now, and you were expecting a call from your mother at any point. The twins were a handful, so if she used them as an excuse for not calling ahead you couldn't be mad. "Anytime," you finally managed to respond to Hawks. Neither of you wanted to part, still sitting on the couch in a comfortable silence. His arm was around your shoulders, and you had slowly sunk closer to him as the movie went on. "My family will probably be home soon..." you said, trying to insinuate a slightly early end to the night. Four hours just didn't feel like enough time.
Hawks nodded, kissing your head one more time, before standing. He swiped his hands down his jeans, and gave you a smile as he stretched. "I got ya, Birdy, no worries." With a wink, the man was preparing to exit out the back so he could take off into the night. You stood, following him towards the sliding glass doors. "Next time, dinner at my place?" As you made it closer to the man, he snaked his arms around your waist. Without your tall boots, the two of you stood at almost the same height. Hawks locked his fingers behind you, arms wresting lazily on your waist.
"Sounds perfect," you told him, following that up with a kiss.
The moment was short, but slow. The two of you were experimenting with speed, and invasiveness, and this was your favorite. Hawks fingers moved slowly with one hand, up your arm and to the side of your face. His fingers brushed so gently, you thought for a moment they were feathers themselves. You two couldn't explore much, but the kiss left you speechless. Hawks laughed at your swollen lips, and brushed his thumb over your bottom one.
"I'll see you soon."
"Yeah."
With one more quick peck, Hawks exited. He gave you a wave as he flew up, and reluctantly home. The air was cool against his warm skin, only thinking of your touch. It was hard to keep his mind away from you, when he really should have been working. Focus, he told himself. Stop fucking around, and do more research. As he neared his apartment with the intention to dig deeper into the mystery of your father's death, there was the familiar smell of burning. His eyes moved, darting around to find any source of the smell. There were no flames or smoke in sight, but he was sure that was the smell.
Lowering himself, just enough that he could see into the alleys, the smell got stronger. Hawks followed it like a dog, finally seeing some sort of smoke. It was dark, and appearing to be coming from a trash can. "What the..?" He muttered aloud as he finally let his feet touch the ground. There was clothes, pictures, and many documents in the trash can. Many were in trash bags, but one was half open. There was a couple manilla folders spilling out, and catching fire slowly. The flames licked them up, a mixture of blue and purple. Hawks tried to snatch one out, almost getting set ablaze in the process. The document was just a random person, laying out their quirk and age. Trying to grab a few others, and snuff the fire to no reward, Hawks realized all of these were documents like the Heroes Commission kept. He watched, letting them burn. If they were being put away like this, it had to be for the best, right?
"Didn't expect to see you around here."
Hawks spun on his heels, instinctively sending out a flurry of red feathers his way. Dabi looked worse than he had seen a week or so ago. The man had more burns, and stitches/staples keeping him together. At the same time, he had put on a healthy amount of weight, and seemed to be harnessing his quirk efficiently.
