Chapter 4

Later...

Riker POV

When I woke up, Ross was already up. He was still laying on his back like he was last night, but he was reading a book he brought in his suitcase.

"How long have you been up?" I asked.

"About an hour. I've just been reading because I didn't want to wake you up."

"Oh... Thanks."

"You fell asleep while we were waiting to find out if we were going to get eaten last night."

"Sorry... I was really tired."

"It's ok. But I think we should collect some more sticks in case we don't get rescued today. If we can build a bigger fire, I think that will help keep any animals away."

"Good idea. My stomach really hurts though. I'm so hungry."

"Do you have anything to eat in your suitcase?"

I sat up and unzipped my suitcase. I had half a pack of peanut butter M&M's from the vending machine at the airport. I dumped them out on our sleeping bag and split them in half so we could share them.

It wasn't that much, but it seemed to settle my stomach.

Ross started collecting more sticks. I took out my contacts and put my glasses on. My eyes kind of hurt from leaving my contacts in last night.

I started helping Ross collect sticks. I think we spent an hour doing it and we ended up with a huge pile.

"I'm getting really hungry again," I said, sitting down by the fire.

"We don't have anything else to eat," Ross said, sitting down next to me.

"I'm getting really thirsty too..."

I hope when they rescue us, they bring water.

"Maybe we should explore a little bit," Ross said.

"Why? Where?"

"Just to see what's nearby. Maybe we can find a fresh source of water or something else helpful."

"Ok."

"Really? You didn't want to explore yesterday."

"That was yesterday. Now, I'm super thirsty."

"Ok."

We got up. I followed Ross over to the stream we saw yesterday.

"I think we should stay in the valley area though. I don't want to start wandering through the woods and get lost," I said.

"Ok. What if we just followed the stream a little bit?"

"Sure."

We walked for probably 15 minutes. The stream got bigger and wider. And I could see some fish.

"I'm so thirsty," I said, sitting down by the edge of the stream.

"What do you want to do?" Ross asked.

"Do you think this water is safe to drink?"

"I don't know. I don't know anything about survival."

I sighed.

"I mean, I know people boil water to make it safe for drinking, but we don't have anything to boil it in," Ross said.

"I'm really thirsty."

"So do whatever you think you should do."

"I'm scared to drink it. But how else are we supposed to get water?"
