Suk Joon was distracted and he knew it, but try as he might, he could not get himself to focus. His eyes followed her everywhere.

Yu Ji Hyuk and Ji Won's wedding had been a grand affair for the public. Because of this, Chairman Yu had organized a dinner party for his friends and acquaintances and of course, Suk Joon was in charge of the arrangements.

Thankfully, all was going well and the latest couple as well as Chairman Yu were the centre of attention. Suk Joon was just happy to enjoy his hard work, that it until she walked in.

Ju Ran had dressed formally at the wedding because she came with colleagues from U&K, so he just assumed...

Honestly, it was not far-fetched that Ju Ran will be here; she was very good friends with Ji Won and Hui-Yeon. He just didn't expect her in that svelte midnight blue dress with her hair in a low bun.

He noticed the look of appreciation from some of the men in Ji Hyuk's circle and felt both happy and annoyed at the same time. Happy, because the objection of his affection was being her most radiant self and annoyed because he had not made her his own yet.

Suk Joon felt like hitting someone; she had been avoiding him. Since she sent the cute picture of the flowers, he had barely seen her, especially in her hiding places in the company.

He watched her with the peripheral vision, his usual composed self. Nodding at something Hui-Yeon said, she smiled more brilliantly, her cheeks blooming in a blush and Suk Joon felt his mouth go dry. He called himself all kinds of a fool.

He had always been a goal getter; during his law school days, when he decided that he wanted to be a corporate lawyer at U&K after attending a seminar hosted by Chairman Yu, his friends had laughed at him. He had pressed on, graduating law school with honors and doing his MBA at Hankuk University, he had immediately gotten a job in Chairman Yu's office at the age of 25 to the envy of his peers. Now, thirteen years later, he was still his goal getting self, making strides and taking prisoners. Why was he so patient with her?

He had also seen all kinds of women: the cute girl, the chaebol princess/Daddy's girl, the fierce goal getter like himself, the ome pretending to be a lamb to swallow a pig, the Cinderella, the ice queen. All of them! But for some reason, he was attracted to Yang Ju Ran.

He could not remember how long ago he liked her; even when he had been her line manager in the 2000s, he had been very careful in his interactions with her to avoid rumors. She had been newly married and such awkward rumors could ruin her life at the company.

After she was transferred to U&K Foods marketing on his recommendations, he had thought he was over her. Not quite.
These past years, transferring to U&K Foods, helping with her divorce and being friends with Ji Hyuk, his interest in her had grown exponentially.

He wanted to be her family like her daughter and parents, he wanted to be close to her like Ji Won and Hui-Yeon, he wanted to be the centre of her attention like her work projects, he wanted to be with her.

"Hyung, you have gone far. I'm guessing your second child with Ju Ran Noona is about to be born" Ji Hyuk said, his usual stoic words bellying cheeky intentions. Suk Joon came to his senses at his words, finally noticing that they were alone and standing to the side.

Frowning slightly, he placed the flute of wine in his hand on the table nearby. Suk Joon clapped the younger man's shoulder in appreciation; he had obviously kept him from embarrassing himself. Ji Hyuk shook his head and looking at the drink in his hand, said, "Hyung, if you stare any longer, you'll burn a hole through her."

Sighing, Suk Joon replied, "You don't understand". Ji Hyuk chuckled lowly at his words. "Hyung, trust me, I do. For a person like me, regret is much more powerful than longing. The minute you have that person to yourself, you even start regretting the time you wasted longing for them. I know what I'm saying."

Shaking his head at the waiter offering him a new glass, Suk Joon thought to himself that sometimes, Ji Hyuk seemed older than him. He looked in the direction of Ju Ran again and noticed she had left her circle for the main area. Squeezing Ji Hyuk's shoulder to say thank you, Suk Joon set off after her, stopping here and there to greet acquaintances and Chairman Yu's guests.

Time and Ju Ran were the only things in his life that weren't his own. He needed to rectify that.
