"You haven't figured it out, have you, twin sis?"I scoffed. "You, my twin sister? What is this, a movie? You're sick, Mira!"
She grabbed my hair. "Shut your mouth! Did you think that you and I just magically look alike? Don't be stupid like your mother."
"You leave her out of this," I pulled my hair out of her grasp. As soon as she let go, I suddenly felt dizzy and moved backward. My feet and my entire body were aching so badly.
She signaled to the men outside and they walked in. "Take them to my room." She asserted and the men led Tessy and me upstairs to a room above the chapel.
The room had a sweet smell and on its left was a medium-sized bed with matching pink bedsheets and pillows, the walls were also pink as well as the drapes and carpet. Everything else was white; white ceiling, white cupboard, white desk and chair, and white doors and windows. This room is either owned by a little girl or some 2.0 version of Dylan Mulvaney.
"Sit!" the man ordered. So, Tessy and I sat on the bed.
Mira joined us soon after and the men walked out, closing the door behind them.
She grabbed a chair from the corner and placed it in front of us. I noticed the pistol in her hand. "For insurance" she answered as though she could read my thoughts.
I heaved out a heavy breath. "Make me understand what's going on here, Mira, please."
She crossed her legs. "It's not that complicated, I was the unfortunate twin who had to pay the price for your mother's greed."
"Well, you're not my sister!" Tessy chimed in.
Mira brought the gun to her head. "Oh shut up! Do you think I want some kind of relationship with you? I've dreaded this reunion all my life but sadly, it has to happen."
"Put that gun away from Tessy, please," I wrapped my arms around Tessy in a minor attempt to protect her from Mira. "Why are you doing all this? To get back at us? Well, my mom was the one who gave you up, why not go talk to her...?" I paused when I saw a glint of darkness in her eyes, "You have talked to her already, haven't you?"
"Of course." She smirked, then she cocked her head in the direction of the window, "Your mom is out there"
"What?" Tessy got up and helped me up too, we walked to the window to see what she meant by our mom is outside.
There was no one there, just trees and bushes and wildflowers surrounding a gravestone. In the distance was a brewing storm, but nowhere did I see my mother.
I snapped my head back at Mira. "Is this a joke? There's no one there"
She folded her hands as a mysterious smile danced around her eyes. "Are you sure?"
My eyes widened as my heart fought against the possibility of what I was thinking. I looked back at the gravestone with a paralyzing fear. "She is d-dead?"
She shrugged and sauntered to where we were. "Here lies Magdalena, Beloved Mother, survived by her three amazing daughters, nice right?"
Tessy launched at her but before she said anything else, Mira pointed her gun towards my belly. "Do anything stupid and that bastard gets it. I wouldn't think twice about killing the baby she made with my husband"
Tessy stopped in her tracks and dropped to the floor. She shivered and began crying hysterically. I rubbed her back to console her, but deep down, I too was a mess. I faced Mira,
"What happened to her?" I asked.Mira looked at me with no sadness in her eyes whatsoever. "When a mother abandons her child to suffer at the cold hands of fate, to be forced into child labor and abused and raped over and over again by the people she thought were her parents—then, things like this become inevitable."
"So, you killed her?"
She grinned. "I did her a favor. Death is a luxury compared to the kind of life she was living."
My heart sunk into my stomach and I felt like throwing up. The last memory I had of my mom was the day she left me and Bella. She wasn't the best mom but she was...my mom.
I winced as I felt a contraction in my waist, I cried as the pain intensified, traveling through my entire body. I cried out and grabbed my belly as my legs gave up on me.
"Niks!!!" I heard Tessy scream my name but I was in the worst state to even acknowledge her. The pain surged down my legs and my upper body and I felt myself fall into Tess's arms. "Help us!!!" Yelled Tessy to Mira who just stood there stoically.
As I continued crying on the floor, I saw Mira take a few steps to where I was. She crouched down and brought her gun to my face, the cold metal of her pistol's mouth caused a painful shiver in my spine. She ran the gun from my temple down to my chin...
"She will have the baby right here in this very room"
"What?" Asked Tessy. "Are you retarded? She needs a damn professional!"
Mira snapped back at Tess. "One more word from you and I'll shoot her in the head!" She returned her gaze to me; with no remorse in her eyes, she smiled, "If she cannot deliver the baby in here, then she or the baby dies...or both"
She got up but kept her eyes on me. Tessy was doing her best to get me to breathe, I was in so much pain but I felt so bad for Tess. I had never seen so much fear in her eyes before, I knew she wouldn't be able to handle it if something bad happened to me. Thankfully, I had done this before so I understood what each contraction meant, although I would have preferred a midwife or something, but Mira has left us with no choice.
I said through gritted teeth as the pain worsened. "Just so you know, our mom never cared for me either, she spent more time out of my life than in, so I see no reason why you're so mad at me."
She scoffed. "At least she made sure you had a good place to stay." Her voice lowered into a whisper... "But have no fear, you will join her soon after I kill you like I killed Geraldo."
