Chapter 4: Mother's Hope

Emmy's impatience filled the air as she tapped her foot impatiently. "Mom, I'm late! Can you hurry up? My friend's waiting."

I chuckled softly at her eagerness, glancing over my shoulder from the kitchen. "Patience, sweetie. I'm not a robot. Give me a moment."

Emmy's exasperated sigh signaled her retreat to the couch, where she switched on her favorite show to pass the time.

Just as I was about to finish up, a knock echoed through the house, interrupting the quiet morning. With a quick wipe of my hands, I made my way to the door, greeted by Olive, Emmy's friend.

"Hey, Aunty! Is Emmy around?" Olive's voice was warm and friendly.

Emmy's excited voice chimed in from the living room. "Mom, meet Olive! He's my boyfriend!"

Surprise mingled with pride as I welcomed Olive inside, taking note of his respectful demeanor.

"Oh, Emmy, you're growing up so fast," I mused, feeling a pang of nostalgia. ""But remember, you're still young. Take things slow."

Olive stepped forward, a confident smile on his face. "Aunty, I'll take care of her. You can trust me."

Emmy's eyes sparkled with adoration as she spoke up. "Yeah, Olive's amazing! Just like you, Mom."

I smiled, touched by her words. "Well, I'm glad you both have supportive families. Now, you better get going. And Olive, I'd like to meet your family sometime."

Emmy nodded eagerly. "Sure thing, Mom! Thanks!"

As they exchanged goodbyes and headed out the door, I couldn't help but feel a swell of pride mixed with a mother's worry. My little girl was growing up, and while I trusted her judgment, a part of me couldn't help but worry about the road ahead.

As Emmy and Olive disappeared down the path, their laughter lingering in the air, I closed the door behind them with a sense of mixed emotions. Pride swelled within me, seeing my daughter embark on this new chapter of her life, and a mother's hope blossomed in my heart.
