"Miss, hey, Miss. Jeez, is she even alive?" Something kept poking my arm.

I slowly sat up, putting my hand on my throbbing head, and sore being an understatement for how my back was feeling. I looked up to the sky, the bright sun making my migraine ten times worse.

"Oh! You're alive! You're awake! Are you okay Miss?" A young voice asked.

I turned around to see a small boy with curly hair, tan skin, and a bag slung over his shoulder. He looked like he was about ten.

"I think." I replied, my hand falling from my head to the warm sand.

"Do you have any family or friends around?" The boy looked around.

"I don't know."

He tilted his head. "You lost your memory didn't you?"

I didn't respond.

"Yeah, definitely did." The boy sighed.

"You must have hit your head pretty hard. Come on, I'll help you." The boy turned away and started walking.

I stood up, almost loosing my balance in the process, my head feeling as if it's gonna explode. I caught up to the boy, he was walking us towards a little hut at the end of the forest. Looking around, I see a village about about a minutes walk away.

"Here, make yourself at home, it's not luxurious, I know." He placed his bag on a small wooden chair near the door. "Take a look around, I don't mind." He disappeared behind bead curtains.

The sound of the beads hitting each other and birds chirping in the distance was pleasant.

I looked around, there wasn't much, just a couple beat up chairs and blankets. He had tapestries over all windows except one. A pile of jewelry, fabrics and clothes. I noticed a small mattress in the corner with a shark stuffie on it. Right then the boy walked out with a handful of supplies.

"Take a seat." He set the supplies down.

"So, what do you remember?" He started tending to the wounds on my arm.

"Uhm, I think my name is Zara and I might be 19."

"That's it?"

"Yeah,"

"So I'm guessing you don't have a home."

"No?"

"That means you're an orphan, like me!"

"Is that a good thing?"

"Well, no, but- it's good to have someone around that knows what it's like to not have a home."

"I guess we could be each others home?"

"I'd like that."

A month later

"Hey! You kids get back here! That's not yours!"

Me and Caspian giggled as we ran away, our hands full of fruits of all colors. We stopped when we were far enough from the village and sat under a tree. The shade cooling us off from all the running.

"That was fun," I peeled a banana.

"Yeah I know right! Did you see her face? It was all like, blah." He tried to recreate the face.

Caspian is like a little brother to me, he can be annoying though. This feeling, the big sister feeling, is very familiar, but I don't know why. Maybe I'm a big sister to somebody in my real family.

Because we're orphans in a well off village, no one cares to get to know us or even try to like us, the amount of times locals have called the police on us are too many to count on just two hands.

"Hey, I'm pretty sure there was a library that we passed. It seemed pretty new, wanna check it out." I asked, taking the last bite of my banana.

"Sure." Caspian collected all the fruits and put them in a bag, tying a knot at the end and leaving it at the tree.

A bell rang as we stepped through the door, startling us both. Caspian saw a shelf of antiques and ran over, most likely to steal something. I started exploring the shelves, taking a few that seemed interesting to me and slipping them in my bag.

"You're not trying to steal are you, young lady?"

I immediately turned around to be met with a woman with her hands on her hips and an eyebrow raised. She had long curly hair, some sections with beads and braids in them. She had a white blouse on, a couple belts, a lot of jewelry, and a long flowy skirt with bright colors that matched perfectly with her skin.

"Uhm, no. No ma'am." I stood up straight, trying not to look suspicious.

"Mhm, come up front." She motioned her hand to follow her as she walked pass me.

I saw Caspian in the corner of my eye, he looked confused.

"You too young man." She pointed to Caspian.

We stopped at a counter, the lady going behind it.

"Empty your bags." She said.

We both did as she said. She picked up the books and antiques, looking at the piece of string and paper attached to each of them.

"You're not gonna call the police on us, right?" I asked.

"No, but I will need money for all this. It's 43 coins in all."

Me and Caspian both looked at each other.

"We don't have any money." Caspian confessed.

"Oh, I see." the woman nodded.

"Well then, how about we make a deal." She clapped her hands together.

I looked up, curious to what this deal was.

"You two, work for me and you don't have to steal anymore. I can give you money and food, I saw you guys stealing from Mrs. Dunwutty earlier."

"Really?" Caspian said, exited.

"Yes really."

"Thank you so much! Miss, uhm."

"Ray, Camila Ray."

"Miss. Ray." I smiled.
