The light dims
The mouse steps out
Quiet...
Be silent....
The cat still roams about.Scurrying in an empty hall
Swish...
It freezes in fear
Quiet...
Be silent....
Is it the cat who is near?Nibbling on a scrap
It twitches and shakes.
Quiet...
Be silent...
The cat might be awakeIt hurries to do
what little mice do
Quiet...
Be silent...
The cat might do it tooSuccess!
The mouse slips away
Still quiet...
Still silent...
It lives another day.****************************
A short and childlike poem that reflects a younger self.
Due to the length of the poem I thought I should just leave some context.Imagine being the mouse, a small creature who must make almost no sound even though it lived in the home as well. I chose smaller words to try and show just how tiny and fearful it must be to constantly be scurrying around.
