Ethan crawled into bed later that evening and picked up his phone. He needed to call his father, and let him know what was going on and get some advice.

Daniel Remington had been mated to a human as well, Ethan's own mother. He'd met her at a club and ended up bedding her and marking her that same night. He'd been drunk and while he'd told her what he was doing, he hadn't explained the full ramifications of it to her. And his mother, unknowing that the man who marked her was her mate, had left while he was sleeping, pregnant with his sister Noelle. It had taken his father almost a year to find her, after she'd disappeared from his bed.

"Hey Ethan, what's up? How's everything going?" Daniel greeted him.

"Pretty good. The pack is way happier than they were a week ago," Ethan said. "Things are going quite well."

"Nick said you're going to give control over to the Gamma?"

"Yeah, I think he's the best choice and so does a lot of the pack. I've let him sort of run everything. He knows them." Ethan made himself comfortable on the bed. He wondered how many more nights he'd be sleeping alone.

"Okay. Why did you really call me?" Daniel asked him.

Ethan frowned. "Did you talk to Noelle?"

"I have but not about you," Daniel said with a chuckle.

"Then how do you know I called you about something else?"

"Because you typically don't call just to talk," Daniel said.

He was right. He generally only called when something was wrong. "I found my mate."

"She's human?"

"Yeah." His dad would know. He was overly perceptive, which given his age, wasn't surprising. He would start to put two and two together.

"Does she know?"

"I don't know." He really hadn't talked to her. But she'd been on his mind all day. She was so beautiful.

"Tell me about meeting her," Daniel said.

"We went to the garden center in town to pick up a load of mulch and she works there. She walked outside with a bottle of water for me and I caught her scent and.." he stopped, his mind back at that moment, and the way she'd been looking at him, feeling the connection between them. The bond. That bond he intended to fully explore with her.

"Your world changed," his father said softly.

"Yeah. She was.. she felt it. That was obvious," Ethan said quietly. She'd been practically tongue-tied as she'd stared at him.

"What's her name?"

"I have no idea. We didn't talk really," Ethan admitted.

"You have no game?" Daniel laughed.

"Really Dad?" Ethan chuckled.

"You need to talk to her, but for now, you just need to assume that she doesn't know and go with it. When do you plan to give Levi control of the pack?"

"Probably around the same time Nick, Noelle, Oliver and Aubrey leave. Things have really turned around with this pack in the last week." Ethan smiled. He couldn't take the credit for it either. He'd just done what he needed to and helped out where needed. Levi was definitely ready to take over.

"And you're going to stay?"

He didn't have a choice on that, not if he wanted his mate. "Yeah. I can't leave."

"I understand. Leaving wouldn't be good for you. The only benefit I had of not being with your mother was that I'd already marked her, but still.. being away from her was very difficult for me." Daniel sighed. "I'm not sure what I would have done if she had decided she didn't want to be mated to a werewolf."
