''florence? where are you, darling?''

she didn't reply. she knew that she should, but she didn't even have the energy to call out. she stood in the dressing room, looking at herself in the mirror with her head tilted slightly. she was wearing a beautiful white dress, her hair was trailing past her shoulders and her make-up was perfect.

if anybody saw her, they would've thought she was the most beautiful bride-to-be ever.

but as she looked at herself, she couldn't help but notice how pale her skin was and the way her neck bones popped and the way the bottom of her stomach made a bump in the dress. she noticed how broad her shoulders were and how flat her chest looked and how the dress was tight to her body.

she thought she looked ugly.

not only that, she couldn't help but think about how wrong this all felt.

and not because it was chase sitting out there. even though she didn't have a crush on her best friend, she wasn't an idiot. he was attractive, funny and treated florence like she was made of gold. she knew that she would've been lucky to marry him in any other universe.

but not this one.

in this universe, she wanted matt.

and she hated herself for that. he had spoken to her like complete shit, took digs at her personal life and was refusing to give her the real reason why he had broken up with her...yet she still wished it was him sitting out there. she wished she was going to show him her dress, to hear his reaction, to see his face light up.

''florence?'' her mother snapped, her voice louder this time. ''are you ready?''

she didn't want to emerge, but she couldn't exactly hide in the dressing room for the rest of her life. she took a deep breath before plastering on a fake smile and pulling the curtain back. she stepped into the room, looking at the three people's reactions.

''isn't chase not meant to see me until the day?'' florence asked, shooting him a small smile.

''rude.'' he grinned. ''you don't want me to see you, wifey?''

she rolled her eyes, turning her attention to her mom. ''how do i look?''

her mom was quiet for a few moments and then she shook her head. ''it doesn't suit your body type...i can see your stomach sticking out.''

''right.''

''you might need a push up bra.'' her mom muttered, turning her attention to sophie. ''what do you think?''

''i think a push up bra could be a good idea.'' she answered. ''but you do look lovely, florence.''

''thank you.''

''what do you think, chase?'' sophie asked.

he shrugged. ''she always looks hot.''

''but what do you think of her dress?'' florence's mom pressed.

chase looked at his best friend for a few moments before looking back to her mom. ''she looks beautiful.''

''do you think she'd suit a different dress better? or would you want your wife to wear something like this?''

''i don't really want a wife.'' he muttered.

''chase!'' sophie snapped. ''don't start with this again.''

''what's he talking about?'' florence's mom asked.

sophie sighed. ''he likes another boy.''

''a boy?'' she echoed. ''since when?''
