𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙩𝙚𝙧 5: a connoisseur
Another late night; curse the school system.
You were sleep-deprived, to say the least.
You had your second tutoring session with Percy last Thursday. and you snapped at him. You had three tests that day, and you got so frustrated that he didn't know where a comma went. It may sound dramatic, but you felt really resentful of yourself. The only thing you had ever excelled at was your academics. And now you couldn't even do that, regardless of your complicated view on percy. You didn't want him to hate you; you didn't want to yell or get angry; you didn't want to have a bad relationship. Because you did care to an extent and tutoring was important to you, it was not exactly percy specifically; it was the fact you had ruined your one goal for this; dont fuck it up.
You felt so bad about yourself that day you walked home. You walked home in the drizzling rain, your least favorite. Halfway through the day, you didn't even take your last test, and you cried half the way home, stopping when strangers passed by, but you really just looked like you were about to shit yourself.
The only thing that got you to stop feeling so terrible was that once the depreciation started, you were like a leaky faucet. It was absolutely no use in trying to stop your head; once you got in your head, you would remind yourself of problems over and over again until everything built up and you forgot about what you had been upset about in the first place.
What stopped you was your cat greeting you at your door. You were her favorite family member. And probably the only one she would recognize at this point. You hadn't seen any of your family in two days, but you knew they were safe because they made you download Life360. As if you were the one sneaking out and partying... And also, things were misplaced when you came home from school, evidence of their hustle and bustle in the morning. Mostly just things left out. But you hadn't spoken face-to-face in two days. Not even the casual 'hey, how was school?' At 10 p.m., when they would finally return, they would barge into your room, usually to find you staring at your computer with a lead paint stare. Or sometimes your dad would call you on his way home. The one thing they knew was that you worked a lot too; you had countless important classes to balance. So your dad would call you and ask if you wanted him to pick you up something to eat from some fast food restaurant.
You would decline most days; the last thing you needed was some greasy burger after a horrible day. You learned how to cook good food the years after your sister left for college; she hadn't known how to cook either, so you two mostly had microwaved meals when both of your schedules clashed for a sad, 5 p.m. dinner. Or you went out to eat, provided by your sister, since she could hold down a job, or you just stole from your dad's'money pants' which you regret now, but nothing you could do about it now.
Now you mostly just ate grilled chicken and salads or cooked yourself a BLT. You weren't a Gordon Ramsay, but you thought you made a pretty nutritious meal. Also, your mom constantly stacked the house with protein bars, you got so backed up with projects or work, you used meal replacements, you didn't like skipping meals because it made you feel like shit, and you lead a pretty active lifestyle, finding whatever time you could muster to go on a short run or jog around Central Park, so any extra boost was good in your books.

You now avoided percy like the plague in class out of embarrassment. Ever since you started tutoring him, he ignored you outside of that stuffy library room, and you ignored him too. But it felt more personal this time.
